I have never not enjoyed a gig (apart from Wolves because of vile assault man...) but it's largely frustration at what I know they could play.

if they played a few more album tracks from the other albums then i wouldn't mind them ignoring lifeblood. They have said they find those songs awkward to play..if anything it would encourage gig goers that only have Truth/Emg and the hits album to investigate other albums if they hear something they like.

scarily i have never complained about a setlist yet, i'vealways enjoyed every gig i've been to and do love the hits, plus having only normally doing one gig per tour i am usually happy to hear anything, but even I am watching these setlists unfold and feeling a bit sad that some real cracking rarities aren't being rolled out, so many songs i would love to hear

The gig tonight was superb. Cracking venue, great sound, band really on form. Nice to hear masses. Hazelton Avenue actually sounded pretty good. Just a euphoric gig from start to finish. Normally I am the first to moan about setlists being very samey etc but when they put in a performance like that it doesn't actually matter.

Oh, and no ocean spray. Just rounded the night off perfectly.

I don't think it would help. Can you imagine what being told by their fans that they put in a shite effort in comparison to Serge, Brian and Bellamy will do to their inferiority complex!?

The Manics seem to have this contradiction of being eternally grateful to any fans, wanting to please absolutely everyone, and therefore playing absolutely nothing the fans want them to play.

PS - I am actually happy about Masses, really.

I'd agree with that. There is only one time I have come away from a Manics gig with a feeling of 100% satisfaction - the second night at the Roundhouse last year, when I left after Tolerate. It meant I missed Australia and YSTSFMH, two of my three most hated Manics songs (the other being Autumnsong), meaning the setlist as far as I was concerned was vastly improved. Okay, so I missed some other songs (LBN, EMG, ADFL? Fuck it, seen them enough times. Slight shame I missed motown Junk, which never gets boring. Sorrow 16? Och, it's not even in my top 20 MSP b-sides, and I'd already seen it twice that tour), but it was worth it.

The knowledge that I had "escaped" Australia and YSTSFMH was almost as great a feeling as having seen JFPL live in its entirety.
