All interesting tidbits, thanks. Given the fact that a lot of your info turns out right, I'll take it serious.

about 3: "referential", okay - but am I the only one baffled by the superficiality and generic-ness of lyrics for "Europa" and "Futurology"? Europa is fantastic musically, but the chorus especially is a bit cringeworthy, no? The title sounds bad in German, too - and translated into English. The chorus of Futurology is painting-by-numbers "we come back some day/Never really went away" - who wrote that, Wire's kids? Musically this album is more promising than the last, but lyrically these two songs seem to suggest even less substance than on Tigers or Postcards.

4. It better does - it is boring, Wire-b-side-by-numbers in the live versions, the most disappointing track of the 3.

I'll find out about the references as soon as I can. There is a mention of "bloodshed in Berlin". TV, Books and actors are mentioned too.

urgh, hopefully not as cloyingly so as on KYE: "Alfred J. Prufrock would be proud of me", "Brian Warner has a tasty little ass" type of thing.

Bloody hell - what's wrong with mentioning famous/historical figures names?!
There's not really a good argument against it - Some of the names they have mentioned in the past have led me (and I'm certain many others) to go and find out who those people were!
And cloyingly is a bit of a strange way of putting things isn't it?
I'm pretty sure mentioning those people once in a song is hardly cloying.

I fear the new single. After hearing the 3 new tracks they release something we haven't heared yet. I hope it's not the 'Nixon' or 'Show me the wonder' of Futurology they'll be releasing.
I mean: Europa or Lets Go To War would be brilliant singles - and we all know the single choices from the Manics the past few years ...

So far what we've heard has been greeted with praise from quite a lot of people, so that's positive. They will probably release the most commercial song on the album, which never goes down too well with people. See the lead singles for the last three* albums....

I doubt the single will be out on Monday as previously thought. Not a jot of radio play or promotion. I imagine it will be out in May.

I still thought the title tracks chorus sounded big live... can't see why people have been moaning about it! I prefer it to Europa... I think...

Having listened to Futurology from 12/04 at Brixton I can see how big that song can become if it ever became a single. It has a tolerate vibe to it.

Also "Between The Clock & The Bed" sounds beautiful by all accounts. It's got a sort of electronic door to the river type vibe to it.

most bands these days release a track alongside the album announcement - there's not usually a big build up to a first "single" any more. if anything is happening on Monday, I imagine it'd be that: "Manic Street Preachers announce new album, hear 'Walk Me To The Bridge' now".
