You think that the general public listen to music to be "spoken to"?

Mass communication does not mean "all the manics fans that know more about what the band should do than the band themselves"...

It's not shite, but sadly, it's not the diametric opposite of shite either.

I'm just praying that the record-buying public likes it.

Hee. I was just thinking this morning on the T: could this be the album when the Manics finally give us a DECEPTIVE CADENCE? I know it's like the cheesiest chord progression in all of music but I don't care; it can pretty much bring tears to my eyes whenever I hear it. Judging by this track, it wouldn't sound out of place on this album...

oh god, I know, I embarrass even myself. /takes off professional hat/

It's great, being the first day of hearing it i'm not going to go above my station and say it's their best though. At the moment it is one of the best songs i've heard all year, i will say that much. I should hate it as it sounds like the sort of thing Bon Jovi could record, but the Manics just add that oomph to make it acceptable to my ears.

I didn't think JFPL was their best album in years, hell no.

I can see why some would be disappointed in it after JFPL, seeing as that was a return to such a raw sound (and indeed, a return to form, many would say), but unlike SATT (which I do like as an album, but felt sounded a bit contrived in places) it doesn't feel forced. It sounds like a band enjoying themselves, creating a lovely melody. Well done to them; I'll be singing this all night now.

Right I tried to stay away from passing judgement earlier on. I might have leaned towards positive and after a few listens I'm still there...more so.

As poppy and commercial and grand as I was expecting, really catchy. Seeing as SATT is what brought me to this great band I'll always dig their pop stuff and I'm liking it

They always tread the fine line of pop and alternative rock, and when they do pop they usually do it in grand style. This almost makes me forgive them for AutumnSong, bring on the rest of the album.
As ever I have to agree with Radiomanic!
