Same here. Liked the TUVL piano, but need something different now.

Definitely feels like one where it's better in their own minds.

Might just be an 'It's Not War..' style disappointing first single, but I'll give it a chance.

It's sounds like the chorus of Coming Home by JJ72.

The pulsy synth arp near the end during the quiet verse is quite early Squeeze-ish I suppose - doesn't sound like it's lifted from an actual song though.

I can't see them teaming up with Manics to write a song together. If they've borrowed something then it's gone right over my head.

Anyone got the lyrics?

Bad song. Reminds me of the obnoxious German music genre "Schlager". Cheap piano chords and old people 60+ clapping their hands to a 4/4 time signature.

Lyrics:

Into The Impossible Heart Of The Sun
Might Be A Place Where I Could Belong
Society Used To Be My Worst Enemy
Now I Want To Build A Small One For You And Me

Chorus

The Decline And Fall
Divide And Dissolve
The Dry Stone Walls
A Beauty That Calls
The Decline And Fall

A Beauty That Calls
I Know Our Time Has Come And Gone
But At Least We Blazed A Trail And Shone
These Tiny Molecules Governed By Rules
Little Atoms That Only Leave Clues

Chorus

So Much For Calculations
So Much For Standing Tall
So Much For Implications
So Much For The Decline And Fall

Chorus

Thanks. None of that quotes any Squeeze lyric from their past. Must be something else.

'Little Atoms' is an Elvis Costello song title though!

NME reckons it's driven forward by the Manics’ influences of The Skids, ‘Gran Turismo’-era The Cardigans and The War On Drugs... can't hear any of that myself, just sounds like TUVL pt.2 to me.

Sounds like a continuation of the sound they had for Orwellian, but not as catchy. May be a grower but can't see it getting much airplay. If that's the lead single then the rest of the album must be pretty un radio freindly.

Just one listen and it's a meh for me. As some of you say: hope it's a slow burner. Even though I won't listen to it again until the album comes out.

If you want to do another shared FD experience. Their R2 show should be broadcast on the 8th of next month.
I like it a lot more now. LOVE the James/Nicky section but it becomes the highlight with each listen.
Can you hear traces of It's All Gone in there? And Sean will probably have the drum fills preset and operated electrically like Carl Palmer!
In one interview, Nicky was pestering Sean to write a song. Wonder who sparked this one?

EDIT: It at least took me a week to get into TLORN. But WMTTB and IB still better comeback singles.

Usual Wire press release bullshit about the influences.

Could be a lyric about Sean's facial hair maybe? Sean is looking at you disapprovingly. Embrace the beard community, or Decline and Fall.

Isn't that a description the band have used for the new material they're working on?
