I hope it is a massive hit for them, as that is clearly what they want. My opinion has slightly improved from the 'DISAPPOINTMENT- just ok' to a bit better upon forcing myself to listen to it over and over again. I don't think that it is as immediate as YLAINE, which I loved straight away (but over time, the love eroded slightly) but I think a year down the line it will be on a similar standing to that song in my Manix song opinions.
I'd have loved a continuation of a JFPL, as it was a time when I felt cool for being a weirdo Manics fan in the Noughties haha, but we all knew that was a special one off.

Nicky's interjection is becoming more endearing upon each listen however....I don't know why either! It's becoming one of my highlights of the song, which really doesn't say much for the song does it

For me, all Nicky's vocals do is make me think "Why would such a professional as James allow his music to sound so unprofesssional"!

I try to ignore the Nicky part, it's not really intrusive this time round. It would've pissed me off proper if he'd had more than two lines though, hopefully he doesn't sing on the album!

This is pretty much my take on things. It's not a bad song at all, but I don't love it either. So I gave it an "Okay" in the poll for now. I've got higher expectations of the album tracks.

And am I the only person who doesn't mind Nicky's line?

Yep, yet again his monotone voice is going to ruin the flow of another album.

I really like this .

Nicky is like a little kid trying to push in/ get centre of attention when he sings his little bit

Comparing it to stuff off JFPL or THB seems rather redundant, because the tone of those albums is clearly not what they set out to do with this one.

As for those comparing it to TBTGOG, there's definitely a similarity in some of the chord progressions. It also sounds like a cross between YLAINE and That's No Way To Tell a Lie, with a slight bit of Emigre mixed in it to me as well.

I'd like to think this is one of the 'safer' songs from the new album though and it seems like it's going to have a bit more depth and variety sound/production wise than SATT did, which would definitely be an improvement for me.
Agreed. The single's pretty much what I expected. I'm not worried about the album.

I never even noticed the Nicky bit so i'm listening again..

7/10 for me at the min. First impression is better than that of YLAINE (which I grew to love) but I'm not blown away in the way I was by Peeled Apples.

(Though, obviously, as it's a new Manics song I'll be locating a p!ss poor quality mp3 of it somewhere so I can listen to it constantly on the way to work and would be doing so even if it were a 13min acid jazz re-working of Fragments!)

I do think songs need to exist, humans having been playing music in some form for thousand of years, it the best format to express our selfs, so if that format not taken advantage to it full extent, then don't fucking bother wasting your time and my time (directed at manics)

I really don't understand this last shot of mass communication bizz, when they release a song that says nothing, that what so disappointing, they do normally have something to say. They really have lost there way on this one.
I meant I agree with how Oscar Wilde meant that all art is useless. Art doesn't need to change the world, it doesn't need to have deep meaning or anything. Yeah, you can go for that if you want, but this particular song is definitely a step away from that. They've spoke in interviews about PFAYM being a shameless pop album. That's all it is, it's not the Holy Bible, I don't think we're supposed to read too much into it. We've been told what we're getting, and they've given us it. Can't say fairer than that, really. Art can be purely superficial. I'm a simple guy, I prefer it that way

The mass communication thing... I'm not sure what exactly they meant by that either. They've always seemed to pride themselves on being a political band with a lot to say so no doubt we can expect a few more political songs on the album, but if they're going for mass communication they're gonna have to dumb themselves down a bit.

Indeedy! Sorry Nicky but please keep it to the solo records, James has such a wonderful, powerful, unique voice it really doesn't need anyone else's imput, epsecially when they sing like they have a collapsed lung.
