I'd have to disagree with this, Greatest hits albums for artists and bands are still usually their biggest sellers, it's a good money making machine for artists and record companies.

I see it as the last time they (Sony and MSP) could pull something like this off. I'm not blaming the Manics but a lot of other bands are going for "One last cash grab" from their fanbases before the double dip recession (may or may not) kicks in. Only difference with the Manics is they aren't fleecing you outright like Pink Floyd. I love that band, but bringing out a best of that's basically a one disc version of their 2001 double disc best of (Echoes) makes National Treasures seem better value for money.
I think the Manics have come around to accepting their days of high charting singles are gone. So here they all are as proof. I hope the Manics don't turn their noses up at future downloads and use them in the future.
But I don't download. And I'm seriously fussy over who gets my money!* Noel and Liam can offer blow jobs in the street for all I care.
Nicky, James and Sean have no such worries!

On paper it looks like that. From the publicity it might look like that. But in the first week... I bet it gets held off by something else. I hope it stays around in the charts for over a year, but I'm not hopeful for another chart topping album.

*=Seriously, check out my posting history in the "Last thing you bought" thread. (or whatever it's called)

Adele will probably have her '25' album out or something just in time to scupper any chances!

I really hope they do the right amount of publishing for this or the single could be a flop

Will depend what sort of music the majority of the public are in to at the time. I fear rock may still be overlooked in favour of pop/r n b/hip hop etc. Will have to wait and see!

Can't really imagine anyone outside of this forum buying it. Besides the stuff on Forever Delayed, there's not much that could be on this that the less obsessed normal types would be interested in.

Exactly - it appeals pretty much only to us, yet simultaneously to none of us - as we should all, in theory, have all of the songs anyway.

A complete waste of time.

If only FD would be out-of-print for a couple of years, that would create some market for NT. But it isn't, and it's usually sold for a bargain price, and it's the only 'special edition' which isn't a collectors' item at all. It was even re-issued in a paper-slip-case for an even lower price.

If all the songs on the NT are the originals and not hacked to pieces like the ones on FD that would be an improvement. If a booklet which included a few polaroids/lyric sheets/ unseen Ikeda photos charting their history as to why they themselves are such national treasures were included then I would be very happy about buying this and I'm hoping this will surpass FD in expectation *crossed fingers* I'm hoping the marketing people have seen what The Smiths are putting out and are at least trying to put an ounce of effort into this or I'll be sorely disappointed.

I'm just looking forward to the "time travel" of listening to it all in one, to be honest.
