have we managed to decipher the lyrics yet?
I'm sure from the live versions James was singing "I've seen the future/It's not over".
But on the studio version I can hear "I've seen the future/It's not freedom".

To be fair, the lyrics video leaves nothing to decipher.

Should've known...

Yes. The third post in this thread. And they have them in the lyrics video which is now on Youtube.

"I've seen the future / It's not written"

Listening to it last night, I thought "meh, it's not quite as epic as the live version was."

Tonight, listening to it with better headphones on, I'm thinking "THEY'VE TAKEN THE BEST BITS OF EMPIRES AND DANCE BY SIMPLE MINDS AND SHOVED IT INTO ONE SONG!" Or something like that. Certainly that little keyboard motif during the verses sounds like it could have been sampled from an early Simple Minds song.

Great song. How is this the same band that came out with an album as dull as Postcards just a few years ago?

Just heard it for the first time tonight (never listened to Live version). Thoughts? Love it. All of it.

So far I've very much enjoyed WMTTB (lyrics let it down in the verses....it's too clumsy, but the chorus is phenom. Yes, that's right, phenom) & I'm loving this. Bring on Futurology (not that I was doubting the boys in any way)

Conceptually its great and its executed really well.

I do think that 3 verses is too many and the lyrics in the 3rd verse don't scan so well. I would have loved a caustic jagged short sharp solo in there and then use the 3rd verse lines, especially the communication one, as an outro a la Found That Soul.

So did I (and that's what I still sing) but the video obviously says otherwise

Look what they've done to you with all their half-arsed songs! Three verses is not enough!! Especially when there's no middle eight!!!

It's refreshing to get a Manics song that doesn't re-cycle lyrics.....oh hang on.

Having said that..

I love it.

First listening of the song on proper speakers : quite different of the live version, more... martial? I'm not even bothered by the facts that : 1) it's a duet, 2) with a woman. It says a lot when you know my taste.
So, in the words of Son of Stopped, for now, it's still : "iwanttodosexualthingstofuturology" here!
