Also, if she's here, I'd like to apologise to the girl in the crowd that I said "Aren't you on New Girl?". I wasn't even flirting, I genuinely thought she was Zooey.

James was really anxious I thought feeling the pressure of playing it live for the first time and maybe the lyrics themselves. I don't anyone can play or listen to 4st 7lb or the intense humming of evil without the lyrics weighing on your mind. For me it occurred during archives of pain. Great song but I don't believe in the lyrics and feel a bit annoyed at myself singing along to them....

Aye, I saw a few guys with Slayer t-shirts and mullets during THB set but they seemed to vanish at the break.

I thought THB section was really good. I was a bit strange too as there were a few occassions when i was really conscious of the first time i saw them at the Barrowlands with alot of memories flooding back that I didnt know i had! Weirdly it was a guy wearing a Pearl Jam tshirt that acted as the initial Madeleine for all these thoughts rather than a song but then the songs started doing it too.
After the interval. The classics might be a bit boring for those going to multiple gigs every tour but they are classics for good reason and always get a good reaction from the crowd. The songs from Lifeblood and beyond on the other hand were pretty flat. The first half reminded me why i was so devoted and made all the expense and heartache over the years worth it. The second half reminded why i stopped bothering. It would be unfair to compare the gig itself (or at least the first part of it) to the one in 1994, things move on, not just the band but me too - for one i'm not a teenager anymore! On its own merits though it was good.

Great as it was throughout, I thought James was visibly nervous for the first few songs. After 4st 7, which was astounding, I thought there was a huge step up. Incredibly good version of Motorcycle Emptiness to open the second set.

Four words after witnessing THAT set.
INTENSE HUMMING OF EVIL. The whole room felt haunted and in awe. I actually cried it was so amazing. The holy bible in full live was the best thing ever. 2nd set was quick and a bit light but overall - sooooo good! Addendum - I may have purchased the hoody for £45. I like hoodies. I like the Manics. I like the Holy Bible. Last edited by Escape Artist; 09-12-2014 at 03:22. Reason: Extra |
