Maybe someone should ask him and see what he says. Can't hurt.
I'd love to know what he thinks of Autumnsong. Not as OTT as Mr Blue Sky maybe.

Rather than starting a new thread I'll add to this one. Bought ELO'S A New World Record over the weekend and "Do Ya" which Jeff Lynne originally wrote for The Move bears a slight resemblance to MSP's Condemned To Rock And Roll. Listening to it I thought "I know that riff!" then it came to me. I know riffs can sound similar blah de blah just found that interesting. James being an ELO fan and all that.

I trust you're not taking the piss. Oh well, you probably are. My ELO collection is going well, I think I've got almost everything. I need one more Echo and The Bunnymen record as well!

As Mr Bradfield himself said "It's not a guilty pleasure, it's fucking genius!".
I tend to agree with him.

The last few ELO albums were poor.
I have a fear this would turn MSP into AOR / MOR .. GATS kinda era

So Why So Defensive? That's my favourite part of the song. Not that familiar with ELo mind, but that song's good. And Turn to Stone of course.

If anyone wants a huge amount of ELO vinyl cheap, please get in touch! I need to sell all my worldly goods before I go to uni...

Got most of the albums, the two boxsets (3 light years, 4 light years), most of the singles, some coloured vinyls, Jeff Lynne solo vinyl... Get in touch if you fancy it nice and cheap

I can't ever see Jeff Lynne and Manics working together, I don't know how it'd even be set up. Altho A New World Record (amazing album) I can see bears some small resemblances to some Manics stuff...

Sorry Son Of Stopped, misunderstood you! Only listened to "Do Ya" twice so the lyrics haven't sunk into my brain yet.

The only ELO song I know is Mr Blue Sky and I love that. Very Beatles-y. As for wether Jeff Lynne would be a good producer for the manics ermmm dunno.

I'd like to see it happen. Could get an interesting result. If Mr Hall could get them to Cuba.........

I was a big fan of ELO, indeed the very first single that I bought was 'Turn to Stone' and I had all the albums from ELO I to Discovery. I even bought Xanadu (hangs head in shame). After that I went off them but still bought the Flashback box set.

Would Jeff Lynne producing the MSP be a good idea? Yes, if you like overblown production. I'm my opinion NO it wouldn't be a good idea at all.

Couldn't Nicky do the production from now on please?

I liked them from the first single I brought which was 10538 Overture and had all their albums except for Xanadu which was awful. The Diary Of Horace Gimp still makes me cry everytime I hear it

I wonder why people think he'd tried to make them sound like ELO. He might not necessarily do the overblown thing with them. Haven't heard the non-ELO stuff he's produced. Has anyone else?
