I love James' stubble! *slobber*

See I don't think TLORN is *that* bad, but it no way should have been a single, let alone the leading one. It wasn't that good live though from what I remember.

If you watch the performance, try not to sing along in your head and focus solely on James' singing, and not the backing vocal track, then I think it's easier to appreciate just how bad it really is.

I still think Sean's hair and Nicky's baseball cap are marginally worse tbh

*sigh* How was A Song For Departure never a single and the other two were? *shakes head*

![]() Oh yeah, that as well, perhaps even more so, but I was referring to the 3 tracks linked in the original post.

I'm not surprised Empty Souls was a single, but 1985 definitely should've been. I think TLORN is a pretty decent tune and the production's excellent, though it wasn't strong enough to be a comeback single, and its title isn't exactly up there with the Manics' best, IMHO.
Still, I do love Lifeblood (and its b-sides/bonus tracks). Gonna give it a spin now. |

TLORN made me cringe, and still does. As Stu points out, 1985 should have been the lead release.

It was a pretty dire performance, as most of them on Jools have been. The sound on BBC is crap, it always has been.

I've always felt Empty Souls to be the best lifeblood song but 1985 has really grown on me recently
