The only fail in this thread is the notion that My Bloody Valentine ruined their music with "lots and lots of unnecessary feedback". Loveless is sublime, and there's barely any feedback on it. In fact, I'd welcome more feedback during the heavier tracks at Manics gigs.

"Why can't the band just pretend that Richey left them like hundreds and thousands of fucking excellent lyrics" >< "If this stops Nicky Wire writing any more lyrics then we can all be agreed that we can live happily." Wire's lyrics are not excellent. That bothers you. "I like the band. I love the new single." The new single is lovable. "Nicky Wire cannot write song lyrics" Your point disintegrates. Unless of course you're just in it for the music now. But then why would you be bitching about it?

Steal other people's writing and pass it off as the work of a possibly dead friend/colleague? Yeah, that's a totally legitimate and utterly charming idea.
Now shut up.

I love what I've heard of the bands new stuff. The lyrics just stink. It's like walking into a really beautiful hotel suite only to find there's an unflushed turd in the bowl. Listen, the lyrics don't completely ruin the songs for me. You can choose to flush Wire's words out of your mind and focus on the music more but it still stinks up the whole experience somewhat. That's all I'm saying.

i wouldn't want to stand in the way of anyone wishing to get on with hating 33% of the current line up, but my view would be that Nicky Wire wrote This Is Yesterday, 1985, If You Tolerate This, Born A Girl, Empty Souls, Prologue To History. yes he has written some rubbish along the way - every writer has at some stage. however, to say everything he has done is rubbish would be rather silly; he's written some of the greatest lyrics i've ever heard.
