The Manics version, it has James' vocals on.

Love both but the Manics version gets the nod because of James singing on it!

The Manics, just because it's lovely to hear JDB's voice, but I love the way Shirley sings those Wire lyrics

I prefer the Manics version; Yea it may have been written for Shirley and its not a true Manics song in that respect but I feel that the Manics' demo has a subtle delicateness to it that suits the song much better.

A duet of it would be awesome!

the manics' version feels ironically enough closer and more sincere...

Especially as Shirley Bassey lives in Monaco and only plays on her being Welsh in the same way Rod Stewart plays on being Scottish (Even though he isn't and was born in Archway in North London) despite living in California.

Oh yes. And him supporting the Scottish nationalists too. How pathetic.

I think the 'Better' version is Shirley's version, and I voted for this, as it obviously has better production and the strings etc, it genuinely is a 'better' version. However I prefer the Manics demo version to listen to - but that isn't what the question asked!! (Sorry for being pedantic!!)

Shirley.
James singing about being a girl, that's just silly, hence my dislike for The Girl Who Wanted to be God... |
