I was once so obsessed with the Manics that I made my sisters try to sing Landslide in a swimming pool, underwater.

No, having reheard Patrick Bateman, it is shite - and the LP (shows my age) would have been worse off had it been included.

This is now fact and I defy anyone to disagree.

I like that faux metal sound of PB.

It's 'madness'? I always thought it was 'sadness'.

i've put a playlist together and took out drug drug druggy and symphony of tourette and put in hibernation, us against you, are mothers saints and charles windsor and its a much better album.

I thought life becoming a landslide was the weaker single..whats wrong with FDTW??????? One of my favourite manics songs that!
I love both Symphony and Bateman without any irony. The lyrics to PB are fantastic and weirdly this was one of the tracks that got me listening to metal. I remember thinking that it had the most evil sounding chord (before I found out about tritones) and that track taught me all the metal tricks of power chords, palm muting and widdly widdly solos.

LBAL is also my theme tune on shitty weekdays ("Life Becoming a Landslide / I don't wanna go to woooork!").

i've never paid much attention to the PB lyrics (apart from the i fucked god up the arse..noticed that alright) The music puts me off too much. Maybe if it was shorter it wouldn't be so bad but the first time i heard it i just thought *is this going to ever end?*

Eh, I could never get into the album, even if there's at least six good ones on there; the production on Life Becoming A Landslide put me right off for some reason. (As I recall, my exact reaction upon first listen was "who hired the Backstreet Boys for backing vocals?")

Life becoming a landslide is the best track they have ever done and will do (regardless if they're musicianship has improved.)

I think it's a pretty good album. Even if I prefer their rock/punk sound up until 95 more,
they've certainly made better albums after GATS (THB, EMG, TIMT and JFPL).
It's got a bunch of good songs on there (no masterpieces though) and the ones people
usually label 'fillers' are actually pretty decent songs.
But I've got to admit; tracks such as Hibernation, Patrick Bateman, Donkeys and
Are Mothers Saints would have made the album grander (14 songs instead of just 10:
2 more mellow songs, one mini-Motorcycle Emptiness and a sludgy "metal" monster).

I've always liked 'Patrick Bateman' and coming from a guy who grew up on metal;
it really isn't such a metal song anyway. Just the riffing, a bit.
But they've always sounded better that way than when they go too pop and dancey

I love this album. Aware it's uncool, but I really fucking love it. It's so fun and overblown and great. I'd listen to it over most of The Holy Bible any day.

Yeah, deal with it!

He! He! THB is definitely above GATS for me but I still love it nontheless!

The peak of JDB's vocal and guitar skills was GATS. Therefore it is awesome.

The best rock album the Manics have ever managed, I love every song including Symphoy of Tourette and Gold Against the Soul.

The bad spots are some of the suspect lyrics but James' voice is insane.

Easily the best b-sides era.
