i was somewhat more disturbed by the vote for YLAINE but come on, it's Christmas, let us try (pretend if need be) to be nice to each other - if anyone here got into the band via either of those songs or any other (except Autumnsong), well then fuck it, so much the better, welcome to our merry get along gang.

I went for Stay Beautiful. I would have gone for Faster, but SB was looking lonely with no votes.

How could it be anything other than Faster? It's my favourite lead single by any band I've ever loved.
It's their peak in every possible way. Best music, best lyrics, best video, best clothes, best era. I was too young at the time of the release, but it was that album that got me into them, a few years later. 2. Found That Soul 3. Tolerate |

The video made me laugh. And I like the song. Maybe it doesn't work live however...

It sounded great on Saturday. I think they should re-record it without all the jingly jangly bollocks.

Faster/PCP.
Whilst there were other great lead singles, do any have the impact of the TOTP performance of Faster?

Well it's not really Beach Boys, it's just general 60s US pop nonsense... but it's a reasonable shorthand

You've got to give YLAINE credit. It sold a dreadful album to a lot of people.
However, I voted Faster/PCP because that's the correct answer. |

I think their best single is either Faster or IYTT. But I voted for FDTW because it was the only time I heard the single before the album (out of these choices) and both thought and discovered that it was a great album. IYTT I heard before the rest of TIMT, but I was incredibly disappointed by the rest of the album. Faster I didn't even hear til I listened through THB. Course, it's bound to be weird for me because their singles never appear in the US.

A Design for Life.
I bought it on cassette when it came out. I'd been aware of the MSP before, but probably couldn't name any of their songs. I just bought it because I'd heard it on the radio and liked the tune, especially the build up to the chorus. But it started something: fifteen years, six gigs (not bad considering the closest they've played is 300 miles from where I live) and a whole lot of albums and singles later, there is still no other band that really matters. |

perhaps this is one for Controversial Opinions, but if you program SATT to play and skip YLAINE and (look away, Gutless) Autumnsong, it's actually a rather good album.

Found That Soul.
Best song to start an album, best song to release as a lead single, best song to start a gig with. |
