This. A few people seem to be assuming it's shit, having not even seen it and with no ground to say so at all, whereas those who have actually seen it have nothing but praise.
I doubt it's any kind of epic Scorsese-style documentary, but the footage they've given us a sneak peak at looks well-worth seeing.

How do you know there's a "contractual obligation"? As far as I know, a second book was commissioned, but that doesn't neccessarily mean a contract was signed. Even if there was a contract and a book advance given to Wire, that doesn't mean he or the publisher can't get out of it. Happens more often than most think.

Anyway, my comment was more tongue in cheek than anything else. I know he's supposedly writing an autobiography, but I don't expect him to finish anytime soon. I think Joni Mitchell spent over a decade writing hers.

People slag off the band's songs on here all the time, I'm not sure it makes me rude to say something negative about a documentary no one's even seen yet! I wish them good luck with it - if it exists.
Yeah, but the band doesn't post here, Elizabeth M does. That's the distinction.

Fair enough you didn't know that the film makers contribute here. It's fairly regularly discussed in the Manifesto thread, but I guess you missed it. I just think the film makers are constantly on the defensive here and it's not really fair. Elizabeth has explained over and over again the problems her team faces yet people keep having digs at their expense. Its not particularly supportive of a community member who has been nothing but forthcoming about the films status.

if it has footage of the band in it, the likelihood of it being shit is limited to all but non-existant, really.

the only "shit" Manics related video footage is that which they do not feature in. that would be Autumnsong i think, i have never got through either version all the way to the end.

I seriously wonder why Manics fans are so negative (or is it just FD?). Not meant as a personal insult, mind you, just genuinely curious; I was wondering if other bands / musicians tend to attract certain 'types' of people...

Yeah, writing a book is tougher than one thinks, but it's not like you hear people balking out of book deals that often either. I've had the fortune of hanging out with people who write for a living...it's really rare that writers just toss their book out, no matter how tempted they are to do so at the last minute; writers are pretty narcissistic and it'd just be going against their drive and instinct.

Worst chances I think is that he might miss the deadline, not likely he'll 'never complete' it though.

Well no manifesto already had a serious thread, this was just to make a negative point about the film. I'd call it trolling myself.

I'd call it a pretty fair criticism done in a light-hearted banterish way.

I could have just said that its a disgrace that a documentary started 10 years ago still hasn't seen the light of day and the makers are still throwing meaningless tidbits onto the forum to try and maintain interest when, without label or band support, there is simply more chance of two other unlikely events happening. But that would be trolling.

and you couldn't do it in the other thread?

I'd call it unnecessary ignorant mean spirited banter, given you know the filmmaker is reading and replying to comments.

I tried to but, as you well know, I couldn't post a poll without starting a new thread.

lots of people saw Richey, too, but his reception wasn't universally positive. apparently lots of people saw Jesus, but then they crucified him.

so at least No Manifesto wins the popular vote?

I like the way you think. By your logic: No Manifesto > Richey > Jesus Christ.
