Underdogs edit job. After the first chorus, listen very very carefully and you can hear an edit that sounds like "Th". In fact once you notice it, you can't notice it.

Is this like 'If you play Marilyn Manson backwards he commands you to strangle kittens'?
Edit: I can hear it. I like to think of it as a sneeze.

Autumnsong was not all that bad a song, it was just not a Manics song. it, and Your Love Alone, were written and performed with no evidence of heart and no intention but to sell well. it's a reaction to the "failure" of Lifeblood, where any failure there was down to them not promoting the songs on it which would have had a good deal more widespread appeal.
every band wants to sell lots and lots of records, and that's fair enough, why else do it all if not for fortune and glory? however, the fact that the band felt compelled to turn themselves into Busted or McFly to do it made a number of people quite cross. time and again the band had made records that were undeniably the "Manics sound" and yet had crossed over to a huge audience, this was the point at which they said "let us change to direct huge audience appeal". there's a fringe element that only want the band to write songs about depression, or indeed basically say "wooo, look at me, a big lanky streak of piss with a politics degree". the rather more healthy majority are happy to give what the band has to say a try, but don't want it to be them saying what they think people want to hear. shit like Autumnsong and Your Love did, in great fairness, attract a whole whack of fans that would not have otherwise dabbled with the band at all, so fair dos to the song in that regard. if that looks tl;dr, then the condensed version is "fucking tell us fucking what fucking baby has done to her fucking hair or fuck off with it Wire" is what we all would have hoped the rest of the band said when the demo was given to them.

The hatred for the song is very much justified. Abysmal lyrics, uninventive structure, bland guitar sound and to top it all off, it's mid-tempo.

Awful song!! up there with Agadoo, The Music Man and the Birdy Song!!! I can still picture coming back from work and my 12 year son and his EMO friends rolling about on the floor laughing taking the piss out of it
