Eons ago I read an analysis somewhere where it was suggested that it's the thoughts of a dying man crossing into the afterlife, which is obviously nothing Nicky would ever write about but the thought's stuck in my head since and it's hard to let go of it. Fantastic set of lyrics in any case.
Thats a painting?? I'm sure I have something on my fridge door what my son painted in Reception class.

It is a bit rubbish isn't it? But if it inspired a song of this magnitude, I'm more than glad it's around.

Some songs just command you to sit down and listen. This is one of them.

Actually I remember reading a Nicky interview at the time that stated the lyric to be along those lines.

Amazing song, and yeah, as nocultureicons said, I used to not really like it but love it now. Certainly one of their greatest efforts. Originally I thought the title was an allusion to suicide, and maybe even to Richey's rumoured fate in the Severn. Not really sure what exactly it signifies now though, although the lyrics and the delivery always strike a chord with me too.
I heard "seek others like you" too and was going to reply to that effect!

This song is incredibly beautiful... I love the lyrics, as they have so much meaning to me... the way James sings it is just superb and those violins give me goosebumps... Don΄t you think JDB sounds a little bit like Roy Orbison in the way he sings it?

I don't think I've ever listened to it. In what format did it come out? I seem to remember it being played on the radio once circa 2002, or was that something else?

Correct.

I love Door To The River, it's amazing, and worth getting FD for on its own IMHO. I think it should have been a double A-side with There By The Grace Of God.

I loved TBTGOG ... especially the video. That weird electro sound was such a departure in 2002. Proto-Lifeblood!
