They can't turn this into good publicity though..? This is sheer stupidity on their part and the stupider they look, the harder it'll be for anyone to take them seriously surely? Morrissey did alright out of Gordon Ramsey the other week, unfortunately donated his damages to Peta though. No doubt the band are horrified to have any implied association with the EDL, isn't that a defamation issue? I hope they do take it further.

I hope not but it seems likely.

Gordon Ramsey thought it'd be a great idea to cook a load of meat while Please Please Please Let Me Get What I Want was playing, and Morrissey would be fine with it.

Eh, there's similarities for me anyway.. raving veggie vs carnivore, socialist vs fascist

Pfft naaaaah.. I just meant the opposites thing. Alright, Please Please Please Let Me Get What I Want isn't an ode to celery, but Morrissey is famous for being a militant vegetarian, he never shuts up about it so picking any of his songs to soundtrack a bit of Turkey stuffing isn't gonna be looked on too kindly by him... Likewise with Manics and fascists.

I was only joking. I am a vegetarian myself but wouldn't mind if someone used any song I made (if that was the case) as soundtrack to cook a steak. Morrissey can be so radical. It's not like he banned McDonalds to play his music or any other meat-based restaurant, so why Ramsey. And his love for PETA? Worst thing happening to vegetarianism ever.

^He's definitely not paying attention to Peta if he's willing to support them.

they don't need to tho' because its so blatantly obvious that the EDL have completely misunderstood the song. The general populace wouldn't accuse the manics of supporting them

I thought it was used on an unofficial youtube video anyway, I doubt legal action would achieve anything more than taking it down?

It's the most shared story on nme.com at the moment. 8,730 shared, compared to the next nearest story about Radiohead & Chipotle - 1,403.

It seems to have people talking.

Without your permission? It's bad enough for any artist's song to be used without gaining permission first, but it's just a slap in the face to use that song to promote something against the principles of its writer.

I suppose that's different. Not that I've ever heard The Smiths or Morrissey in McDonalds, usually been indistinguishable dance or R&B that I've noticed... But eh, if you're already in the place you're there, if it's a compilation on repeat or a radio being played he's getting his royalties and it's not being used as promotion.

I'm glad he joined Peta though, at least we got this ridiculous picture out of it:

It's blatant to us but obviously not blatant enough for the EDL, I think them and their supporters need the point laboured a bit for them.
