Why wouldn't you want it on 180g if the choice was there? Madness.

I don't believe you want to say that 180g 12" plays better than 140g 12" ;-) so what's the point then?

no idea why its 180g mate..it's meant to be the highest quality soundwise. Ask a sound engineer for specifics

The thicker the vinyl, the less chance of warping.

Yes, that's true, however warped vinyl is a faulty one, so no 140g which is being sold should be warped. And if it's slightly warped and it doesn't affect the sound in a significant way, 140g is still superior to 180g. Btw. I'm talking about black vinyl of course, if they do some colour version the sound is completely lost

I don't claim to be an expert on vinyl but I'm not convinced 140g is better in terms of potential quality than 180g (at least in principle, I know there are many other factors involved that are more important and that there are many examples of even 120g that sound better than say 200g…), but we're talking a hypothetical release anyway so… *shrugs*
I'd rather have multi-track lossless hi-res digital audio files anyway if we're making up fantasy releases.

They've never been much of an audiophile band anyway. The recent vinyl releases have been token efforts. The vinyl only b-sides are forever destined to be heard as muddy and flat.
For a THB release to meet the Steve Hoffman forums' seal of approval... It would need to be a double album, 45rpm. Mastered from analogue properly. Not brickwalled. Vinyl is clear so black vinyl is coloured - and to paraphrase Michael Jackson, it doesn't matter if it's black or white. Or red or blue, though those colours wouldn't really suit the album. Do not fuck with the Steve Hoffman forums, Sony... http://forums.stevehoffman.tv/thread...344289/page-35 And even if all the above is met, MP3s of the US mix will still sound superior, so it's all about the packaging. A 4x vinyl of the original and US mixes. One on black, the other on white, in separate sleeves in an outer box to fit a 12x12 book featuring all the crap Nicky said he found. No extra tat. I'll go up to £60, Wire, and you can release a simple THB vinyl for £15 as well. Run to Sony with this, Wire, RUN!!!! Last edited by Dancing Kirby; 23-05-2014 at 10:36. |
