MASH is Suicide is Painless presumably, and not Me and Stephen Hawking?

Yup, I really like how they're mixing up the set lists these days. A bit surprised Condemned didn't last very long, must have taken them an age to master...

Even the caption writers at BBC Alba just had this song as "Mash" and not even "M*A*S*H*" let alone Suicide Is Painless!

And it might have been the sound mixing, but the audience was flat to the intro of one of those 1993 songs!
I think "Second album" might have lost them, but if James had said that on the last tour (Which he probably did) the place would have exploded! The things you do for BBC coverage of your charity walk, eh Manics? Great to see "Walk Me To The Bridge" staying in the set. |

Awesome version of M*A*S*H there!

Nicky looked like the most unimpressed Idlewild fan ever at one point! Wonder if the gushing displays of mutual admiration were hints at a joint tour next year for the EMG tour which James didn't exactly deny.

^ Is there any reason to think they would joint tour for emg? Seems a bit odd.

Is there any reason to think they wouldn't? Yes, pure fantasy maybe. But not so improbable or odd when they've toured together before?

Well no, but the manics don't usually do tours with biggish bands, their support in recent years has typically been pretty small bands, and you wouldn't think they would for a special tour. The idea just seemed a bit out of nowhere.

Cool I'll watch this tonight. I clicked the link to make sure it works, what language is that the two presenters are using before they talk to James, I thought it was Welsh but then realised the festival is in Scotland, so is it Gaelic? I didn't think many Scottish people at all spoke it. Thanks.

It's nowhere near as widely spoken as, say, Welsh language, BBC Alba is a channel devoted to it though.
I was at Belladrum and it was great, despite some dodgy sound at the start. Masses was probably the best I've heard it. The little groupings if songs from the same album (eg From Despair into last Tristesse) worked well. |

Maybe it's because it's off the back of a Holy Bible tour but Nasmyth was at his most oppressive on that BBC Alba broadcast.
Who actually likes it? Seriously, after all these years, which fan out there actually likes that effing cheap organ sound being played over everything? |

But the organ volume and the bass volume are my main gripes with the Manics' sound. They should switch the levels!

Yeah, bear in mind that at festivals there can be up to 3 layers between the band and the viewer; the main desk is recorded out (mixed for the field) and then of course mixed for TV. It's done on the fly and as such not always that great. Have a listen to the BBC mixes of the Millenium gig compared to the final DVD. Subtle changes make a big difference to the final mix.

On BBC- iPlayer new footage of their headline show is available. For stupid reasons not available to play outside the UK.
Anybody care to upload this footage to youtube (unless there are no new songs being broadcast, that is)?
