So weird. Yeah, used to be normal for music, films, even games to have different release dates in different parts of the world but would've thought with the Internet being as global as it is, we'd be going more one size fits all. Has owt been given a specific North American release since Journal? Well besides Holy Bible reissue.. Same label both sides of the pond now, just This Is My Truth and Know Your Enemy on Virgin then back to Sony since? I don't get it, certainly not in the interests of the lanel to limit availability at all. Must be a legal thing? Wouldn't be surprised if Trump's America started trying to ban owt that criticises America, so that could put Manics in a spot of bother...

Different markets. Maybe they aren't doing a us release. and don't be silly about trump, it's a legal sony thing.

RTF & Futurology are available on our iTunes, but it was months after their release everywhere else.

Depends on their deal (if they have one) with Sony USA. Canada has a similar release period as the UK.

I don't get why it'd need to be a US release and not just a global digital release especially seeing as physical is on the back burner these days. I mean, kin hell, going over my collection off the top of my head I've got releases from a dozen or so different countries, but the last couple of albums have had a Europe wide release rather than anything country specific in Europe. Don't think there's been a US release since Journal? Course Japan's had em all. Still, cutting out the cost of pressing and distribution and replacing it with hosting.. surely that's fuck all in comparison? If it's a legal thing, it's weird.

Yeah we talked about this. In this day and age with the technology available, why can't they just let us Yanks d/l like everybody else. Bullshit record company corporation politics I suppose.

I think it's more to do with copyright and intellectual property. But, maybe someone someday will set up a way for folks to be able to access iTunes or its ilk from other countries.

Choosing not to release tracks/albums simultaneously around the world in this day and age simply encourages piracy.
I would like to see the official explanation as to why RTF and Futurology were only available on iTunes in the US months after their release. It makes no sense when the US is the largest English-speaking market in the world. If it takes longer to negotiate rights issues, start the negotiations earlier or delay the worldwide release date until rights issues are resolved in said largest market. I really doubt there is any excuse for it apart from 'oh, it's just always been done this way at our record company'.

I ended up ordering from Amazon UK. It worked out about $10 cheaper.
