Yeah that's the new date for it now since they added Downloads. Which decimated the Manics single collection! Technology eh!!

Chart sales on today, charts are announced on Friday's nowadays, so it's gonna be a tense next four days but I sadly can't see the Manics holding out for No.1 as has happened so many times n recent years
1 Manic Street Preachers - Resistance Is Futile (18.2k) 2 Motion Picture Cast Recording - The Greatest Showman (14.0k) 3 Kylie Minogue - Golden (6.9k) Sadly I'm gonna have to say another No.2 album

No2 then but it's almost certain to outdo Futurology's opening week.
Maybe they'll do a £4.99 d/l promotion in the middle of the week. |

Why bother downloading when you can stream it?
I reckon they'll make it just about.

I'm listening a lot at the moment to the album through and and through on Amazon as I have it on my 'Amazon Music' as I bought the CD, not sure if this counts towards 'streaming', I have no idea how that shit works, but I'm hoping my contribution works a little. The Amazon MP3 album is like £2 less than the CD, I've never understood the download stuff, why not buy the actual physical album, then you HAVE something, and you can still rip it onto your laptop or PC or whatever? I always rip my albums onto my computer and listen to them mostly there, but always put the CDs on when in my bedroom on my stereo or in the car.

Nice to see The Damned in the top five. This song is like looking into the future at what the Manics will be doing in 2028.

If you've bought the CD then you'll have an auto-rip of the album. Streaming plays I would think are those who've signed up to Amazon music through prime or whatever.. along with spotify etc. Could be wrong tho

Chart analysis gubbins thingy from accredited chart boffins....
"The album that shot to the top on Saturday’s sales flashes was Manic Street Preachers’ 13th studio album in a glittering 26-year chart career, Resistance Is Futile. Looking to become Manic Street Preachers’ second No.1, 20 years after the first – This Is My Truth, Tell Me Yours – it ended up becoming their fifth No.2 album instead, following 1996’s Everything Must Go, 2001’s Know Your Enemy, 2007’s Send Away The Tigers and their most recent studio album, Futurology, which debuted and peaked in runners-up position in July 2014, on first week sales of 19,938 copies. All of the Welsh trio’s studio albums and three compilations – a grand total of 16 albums – have made the Top 20 (actually, the Top 13). They have also had 24 Top 20 singles, though none since 2007. 4,571 of Resistance Is Futile’s 24,144 sales were on 12-inch, and it duly debuts atop the vinyl album chart, with marginally fewer sales than the rest of the Top 5 combined, while first single International Blue tops the vinyl singles chart (655 sales)." FWIW Hugh Jackman's atrocity exhibition sold 30,080 (including 11,243 from sales-equivalent streams). |

International Blue only had 655 sales on vinyl? I guess that claim of "limited to 300 copies" that some made was a little naughty... but still, 655 is not many.

We-ll-ll FUCK! I almost put money on it getting to number one!
Gone from suspicion of people buying showbollocks because of the Manics supporting Palestine, to a resigned Eh.. If ever there was an album tailor made, nothing controversial, to appeal to the masses it was RIF. Oh well. Back to Absolute Radio etc playing ME and EMG over their newer material then. We still win though as RIF still being played and the only thing I want to listen to for a week. I varied with RTF and the last one. |
