Tbf we haven't heard from the band yet seeing as they're probably only just off the plane from Sydney, and the official website has always been a massive mess, there hasn't really been appropriate opportunity to credit yet. I'm sure they will either in interviews or album credits

Make your own minds up:

A Little Girl Lost

IMO - I hope that David Axelrod's lawyers don't hear about the Manics song.

The Manics will not have had anything to do with the information attached to the MP3 download, that will have been down to someone probably completely unaware of the need for accreditation here. Give the band chance to start talking about the album properly, it'll all come out.

they've done something they always do slightly differently. This is the Day, Primitive Painters, Foggy Eyes, red sleeping beauty etc etc etc all fairly faithful covers.

This time they've taken someone's instrumental added their own spin plus some very good lyrics. The fact that Nicky didn't tweet about it does not mean they were lying about it.

My God.

It makes The Everlasting sound like Faster.

So bloody boring.

In this season of goodwill, let's hope Richard Hawley...

The premise of the song is kind of similar to what Axelrod did on his first album anyway.

Quote:
Song of Innocence is the debut album of American composer and producer David Axelrod, released in October 1968 on Capitol Records. Axelrod sought to capitalize on the experimental climate of popular music at the time and composed the album as a suite-like tone poem based on Songs of Innocence, a 1789 illustrated collection of poems by William Blake.
He created music for poetry. The Manics have kind of run with that by taking one of his songs and adding words to it.

So much win Ben, so much win.

Not to lower the tone but I can't help but hear Jimbo singing the line that was tweeted earlier: "Let me hide under the sheets / And celebrate the bottom"

Right up there with "The Morrissey the less Ice cream"

I almost wish it was, it could be Nicky's first ode to farting in bed.

Only on my first listen but I think this is actually a really good and interesting song! And different. Lots of people complaining on the Facebook page (comments for the video) seem to just expect the band to do the same thing over and over again.

Any news on any other songs from the album being released soon?

This is a very interesting and good song! Don't understand the complaints about Hawley singing on it it actually makes it very interesting and there is a contrast between the parts he sings versus James and I think it is also interesting that he sings more on it than James - didn't expect that!

Any news on any other songs form the album being available soon?

On the other hand, the more I listen to it, the more I realise that that I cannot relate to this as a Manics song. If James or Nick sang Hawley's part, fine. If it actually was a duet, also good. But my gutfeeling, my emotional reaction is that this is a Richard Hawley song just like "Girl from Tiger Bay" is a Shirley Bassey song written by the Manics.
I cannot listen to it at the moment because it feels so wrong to me - despite the fact that I can acknowledge how fantastic Hawley's vocals are. That's how much of a drama queen I am.
I think I will get out of this Manics bubble for a few days till I've cooled down, I'm really this pathetic!
Might still get gig tickets, though, but feel no buzz to pre-order the album. I feel no excitement anymore at all. At most I get a 9 track album and a few demos out of this, the way I roll. Release album 2, maybe that's got a band feel to it.
Sorry for the miserable and unjust rant!
That's how I feel about songs with other vocalists too...I guess I should hear this to see.

Yeah, pretty much. They've been in the business long enough to know how much it could bite em in the arse if they did this without going about it the right way. I really like it, lets see what the credits are before we burn em at the stake eh?

I'd never even heard of Axlerod before this and I'm curious enough to check him out based on that so eh, maybe others will, maybe they've done him a favour. I like that they've never shied away from their influences, got into a fair bit of stuff through them.
