It doesn't fit with their favoured narrative about how they decided to carry on as a three piece after JDB got to work on the ADFL lyric. And by the time they did agree to carry on, the Judge Dredd deal would have been long gone.

If the claim was that it was recorded in 1994, maybe. 1995, I find it hard to believe they bothered.

What's the vinyl quality like? I gather the music sounds good but is it a quiet pressing or is there much in the way of surface noise?

Always thought it was recorded at same time as the No Surface All Feeling demo (which was just overdubbed also for EMG) which was House in the Woods Jan 95 (according to one Google source at least) . People often claim Richeys on that (but always assumed it's a myth especially as the demo doesn't have the outro with fuzzed rhythm guitar) but for it to be believed guess it was done while he was still around. As mentioned vocals were redone/completed later and sure I've read that Sean had remixed it at some point from which the faint electro bits were incorporated but very early 1995 for the basic track is probable.

Haven't got the holy bible book so its just a guess but the reference to 'judge dredd Feb' would probably be the deadline for completion for the soundtrack rather than a recording booking(the film being judge dredd, the song being jdge yrself). Fact it had to be completed later would all add up.

Actually just found this from a post Cherry Bomb made in 2013:

Nicky interviewed by Simon Price in Bang, re. Judge Yourself:

"It was the last time we worked together as a foursome..."

Why did it never come out?

"Because Richey disappeared! We literally recorded it at the last session we ever did, along with a rough cut for 'No Surface All Feeling', 'Further Away' and a few other little things, in early '95."

Yeah I also remember an interview with James from back then where he said he really fought against having Judge Yourself on LT, he was only convinced when Sean did a 'techno Remix'. Wonder if the original demo will ever see the light of day?

20th February is only a couple of weeks after Richey's disappearance, so at that time it was still very hopeful that he'd return. I guess the band continued working in the background just to have something to do as a unit. It maybe explains a bit of the energy in the track.

It was recorded before he disappeared. I think what Nicky was referring to was a demo recording with the full recording planned for after the american press tour

"Judge Yr'self" is awesome. It remains one of my very very favourite tracks. The video, the simple montage of home videos of the band is very moving. There's lots of shots of Richey in the video, but it's all happy shots. The band just had so much fun at times. Not all the doom and gloom.

I'm not sure of the timeline of when the video was made or released. Perhaps it was sometime after Richey went missing and so the reason to use lots of clips of him.

My box set arrived today. Listening now and the clarity is noticeable even to my tin ears. It's difficult to describe the difference but there seems more space on the vinyl versions.

Video was made in 2003. Some of the footage is from EMG/TIMT era.
