Can't recall who asked but INW charted at no.4 in the physical sales, which gives an indication of how much downloads have hit the Manics. Still, the increased sales of the album is a big plus, although it would be sad to lose the run of top 40 hits. Love the song but don't think it really works as a single, Postcards was the obvious choice.

Thats interesting, did'nt realise that. Look like older people still buy singles then and its the kids who download everything.

Postcards wouldn't have fared any better. People just don't seem to be downloading the Manics in comparison with other acts. No idea why cos there's nowt wrong with the songs. I lay the blame squarely with the record buying public.

Arcade Fire are a stadium band and one of the finest on the planet today. Their latest album went to number 1. Their lead single from that album peaked at 75. Singles mean fuck all any more. Even if the Manics do stay within the top 40, that's really quite impressive (especially as the song is gash, but that's irrelevant)

Probably wouldn't have made much difference, just see Postcards as a more radio friendly song is all. TBH i'm just delighted the album has got a boost because i love it, pushing EMG as my third favourite.

That has really cheered me up actually! (Sorry AF fans!)

If SKON is gash than so is ADFL!

I really don't understand why anyone is bothered by the chart positions anyway. Can anyone enlighten me?

Well it's just a bit of recognition for the band at the end of the day. Know it's not a great thing in the scheme of things but it's always nice for a single to do well. Downloading has killed the charts now sadly.

Its a way of saying "HAH my favourite band are seven places better than your favourite band"
"My band are number one!"
etc.

I don't think it has. If anything more people are buying music because it's so easy and cheap. Just because you don't like the music in the charts it doesn't mean it's dead.

The charts aren't as balanced as they used to be. You get random novelty stuff and old records re-charting etc etc. I should have grown out of fussing over the charts by now but where the Manics are concerned I still get excited by it all!

Well someone had to say something warped and illogical so it might as well be me! SKON is still in no way gash though!
