I said 'interesting' not 'good'. At least they don't have bloody gospel choirs all over them..

I have no desire to sit down and listen to anything but those two songs. I have no idea why the hell they felt the need to pile on all the strings and choirs, it's just so sugary sweet and MOR. Very disappointed and hope it really is their last shot at selling out.
100% this. Truly disappointed as I really wanted to love this album.

Oooh, I'm listening to that right now. The demos are great, although I think I'm coming to really quite enjoy the proper album these days. Still not as good as JFPL, KYE and Lifeblood in terms of post-Richey albums though.

Might be a few words out here and there, but this is what it genuinely sounds like if you listen to The Descent (Pages 1&2) - backwards. You have been warned.

I wish Hazelton Avenue was as good as The Promise. Or anything off the last Girls Aloud album for that matter.

Are those the Japanese bonus tracks? I'm waiting until the singles are all out before I go listening to them (unless they don't include them as b-sides for some bizarre reason).

Very very patchy album. It's growing on me, but Don't Be Evil has just suddenly clicked with me as one of the best things they've done for ages. It's simple enough, but insanely catchy, and so incredibly menacing, it's like a lost THB b-side

Was saying on BSP forum that DBE would fit on THB.

Bought it on the day of release and it has grown on me more than I expected. What is abundantly clear is that the Manics are in the form of their life. I think SATT, JFPL and PFAYM are three of their better/best records and they haven't release three albums this good consecutively. THB and EMG, yes, but GATS and TIMT were poor.

So after the underwhelming TIMT, KYE, LB, I think there's plenty of reasons to be excited about them again. Especially when this run of albums have taken them just three years, whereas the previous took three 6.

It's Not War // Don't know why it didn't chart higher, a great pop song, rollicking solo, great chorus // 8

Postcards From A Young Man // Great tuneful chorus once more, after a big start the song has time to breathe // 8

Some King of Nothingness // Knockout tune, this could be massive, I love Ian McCulloch's vocal // 9

The Descent // The first, and biggest, clunker. It's got a nice feel to it, but there's no substance in the lyrics at all. Forgettable // 5

Hazelton Avenue // Again, very sugarry with strings, but one of the happiest songs they have written and none the worse for it // 8

Auto-Intoxication // Not very Manics-sounding, I like the breakdown in the middle and the riff but it's just not quite there for me // 6

Golden Platitudes // Yes it's cheesy, yes it goes la la la, yes its got the choir, but that doesn't stop it being a hidden gem with some fantastic lyrics // 9

I Think I Found It // An unexpected treat. I thought I would get bored of this, but it has grown to be one of my favourites // 8

A Billion Balconies // Can't stand the sniffinf, but this is rock Manics at their best // 8

All We Make Is Entertainment // Good lyrics again, two different choruses and a big guitar line // 9

The Future Has Been Here 4 Ever // I've always been a fan of Nicky's singing and he puts up a decent performance here. The chorus reminds me of The Special AKA for some reason, but the tune isn't as good as some of the others // 7

Don't Be Evil // The placing doesn't do this great song justice // 8

Overall, 8/8.5

EMG // JFPL // THB // PFAYM // SATT // GT // LB // GATS // TIMT // KYE

Does anyone think All We Make is Entertainment sounds a bit like She Bathed Herself in a Bath of Bleach?

Anyway...

OK! I like more of the album now! I've got to the point of not hating Some Kind of Nothingness and liking all of the second half of the album (yes, even Nicky's song which should've been a B-Side). Hazleton Avenue and The Decent are still stings in the tail but other than that i'm enjoying it all a bit more. Just wish they wouldn't choose the least interesting and simplest songs to play live!

I detested it when i first heard it as it reminded me of AutumnSong, but it really isn't that at all. Ian Mculloch saves it i think, if it wasn't for him it wouldn't be as good. Hopefully he joins them onstage in London for it.
