Nicky never did study at Swansea University, he just worked as a cleaner for the halls of residence where Richey stayed. When he says Richey wrote his essays, he meant the ones he fished out of Richey's bin. This explains why Nicky is so obsessive about being working class and socialist. It also explains Nicky's obsession with cleaning and using his dyson. The lyric 'cleaning cooking and flower arranging, dissolves a kind of liberation' in VSEC is in fact Richey making fun out of Nicky who still retreats to his cleaning ways in between tours.

A little known fact is that the Manics actually heard the tune of the new Welsh Tourist Board advert when it came out circa '95/'96 and pinched it for their song A Design For Life. The Welsh Tourist Board allowed them to use it for free.
