I always thought they'd do a good cover of The Mercy Beat, and the more I think about it Armageddon Days would be pretty cool as well.

To name the only hitherto unmentioned The The tracks I know, how about Love is Stronger Than Death (very un-Manicsy sentiment) or Uncertain Smile (Jools could actually make a useful contribution the next time they show up on Later).

I remember James talking about Matt Johnson in an interview years ago, saying he went out and bought a Sartre book after he mentioned in in the NME or somewhere, had to read it a few times before he grasped it.

Move over Stephen Fry Manic Street Preachers are National Treasures toohttp://news.qthemusic.com/2011/08/mo..._manic_st.html

Move over Stephen Fry. Get out of the way The WI. Jog on Jarvis, Great Britain has a new National Treasure - the Manic Street Preachers.

With the band in a retrospective mood thanks to their forthcoming singles collection (released in October), Nicky Wire joked the Welsh trio have now graduated to 'beloved' status in the public's eyes - so much so they've called the new collection National Treasures.

"It's half true, half piss take," the bassist told Q of the band's title and national treasure status. "We've probably got to the stage where we are national treasures."

The collection will be accompanied by the release of a photo book featuring "the cream" of Wire's career-spanning "collection of around 6000 to 10,000 Polaroid photos", but despite the general look back, Wire insists this is not the prelude to these National Treasures going into retirement.

"We'll keep making albums as long as we're still bitter and angry and hate filled," he declared, adding the next new one will be along in 2013.

For the full story of the Manics collection and an exclusive interview with Wire get the our current issue, Q302 which is on sale now.

Plus Q will have some very special Manic Street Preachers news soon so stay tuned to Qthemusic. In the meantime the band have been nominated as one of the 25 greatest artists of Q's lifetime.

Head to Qthemusic.com/q25 to vote for them and get more information about our 25th birthday celebrations, including exclusive gigs, video interviews and more.

Probably some rehashed documentary made by Q knowing them. As awesome as a gig would totally be.

Interested by the Q news due out.
