I remember when loads of people had brilliant Manics fan pages on Tumblr and they all got deleted for copyright complaints. It’s not worth putting so much work and passion into something if there’s the chance of it being destroyed in an instant at the whim of some American tech company, so it’s not surprising nobody bothers anymore.

If I remember correctly it was a litigious UK photographer rather a tech company, responsible for trying to take down a few blogs for sharing photos taken from old music magazines. He might have sold more of copies of his book if he hadn't harassed his target audience. Can't remember who it was exactly, pretty sure it wasn't Kevin Cummins though.

Some people are so f**king miserable ...

Yes, but it was the tech company who acted on his complaints. I think once something like that happens to you once it destroys any enthusiasm for creating another site on any other platform.

I don’t remember him ever actually bringing out a book. Just seemed like an angry old man pissing on people’s pleasure just because he could.

It's much worse these days, all automated. Think itch.io was brought down recently because of software used by Funkpops detected something that could have been copyrighted (it wasn't) on the site. Broken algorithms acting up poorly defined search terms.

Ironically the only people keeping those photos active were the fansites. Music magazines are folding one by one and 90's bands are falling into the couch cushions of time. What was the f**king point.

It's ten years this month since I saw the band for the last time. One of those Roundhouse THB gigs. Not a bad way to bow out.

On the interview where Nicky says James has learned Welsh over the last 2-3 years, there's hopefully got to be Welsh lyrics for a song or album sometime.

Do you think James singing Ready for Drowning in Welsh was his homework? (I think it was Ready for Drowning he did wasn't it?)

Yeah I saw on the video that he did Motorcycle Emptiness first, changing the lyrics a little, then he sung half of Ready for Drowning in Welsh.

He also included TBFTP, TSWH and ADFL in his set. So hopefully more homework for James.

More than 10 years later and this is still the first image that comes into my head when Between the Clock and the Bed comes up on shuffle...

Making history on this forum. Not even joking.
Ancient people used walls to write their thoughts only because they didn't have the Internet.

Sooo... we've established that "People Ruin Paintings" is not about activists splashing paint over Van Goghs. But I'm having a hard time trying to figure out what is it about then? People destroying art by overanalyzing it, breaking it down into tiny bits? Call me dumb but I just don't get it. Any hints?

Seems to be when people/subjects are in the painting/art - Nicky just wants landscapes! Or just wants less of the artist and more of the subject - tying in with people always taking selfies where ever they go, making themselves the subject, rather than the place/object etc.

Ahhhhh, so it's the mere presence of people in paintings that ruins it all, got it! (or not )

To be honest, I think People Ruin Places makes more sense as a title given the lyric and above description.
