Amen to that!

Hey consecutive top 75 singles isn't bad. I mean I haven't even had one...

I bet the Charlatan fans aren't calling them sell-outs and arguing over singles though!

It will be disappointing for them but I don't think it's embarrassing. Top 40 would have been a fine achievement in December. They pushed for the Xmas market and it didn't work. If they'd released it next month, it would have gone as high as top 20, but that's the chance they took. It needed a Christmas miracle for them to have a hit under these circumstances.

At least they got it playlisted by all those radio stations they promised gigs to before cancelling them. Ha! Don't expect that for a third single.

But, please, let's not compare them with the Charlatans. You never hear Tim Burgess talking about albums as 'mass communication' and updating midweeks on his Twitter account. Show the man some respect.

Not comparing them! Just saying The Charly's are well respected by most music journos and they won't get trashed for not having got into the top 40. So the Manics certainly shouldn't be trashed for their efforts. SKON is a good song and deserved better but that's how it goes.

hey truth is the single isnt fantastic. the appearance and tv helped to sell a few more albums, but let us not forget that people dont buy CD SINGLES any more. except fans, that is

in the end of the day, oh well. good point for a new beginning for the band.

Given Radio 2 played the song about 6 times a day and they had a good few shots on big shows (Soccer AM, Strictly Come blahblah) and some smaller ones (Daybreak) it's obvious it isn't a good enough single. A hook could have helped them out in the song but really the public (which we're all included) vote with their wallets.

Just saying, it's a shame statistically but eh, chart positions don't make a great band.

Ghost of Christmas would've charted far higher at this time of year than SKON - and you don't get too many Christmas songs like that these days.

If SKON had been released at the same time of year two or three years ago it would've probably reached a higher position. The singles market has changed quite a bit in a short space of time.

My best hope now would be for a CD EP of any remaining tracks getting a release early next year.

I reckon you're right, if SKON was the 3rd/4th single for Send Away the Tigers it would have entered higher following an album that had several catchy singles, the media would have happily plugged it due to the bands popularity then and more people would have heard it.

Also seconded on hoping for an official EP next year.

Maybe someone will start a facebook campaign for it to be the anti-X Factor song next week

And that is EXACTLY what we need to do. Lets get deciding on the song... lets face it, it can be absolutely anything given its based on shitty downloads.... My preferred choice would be The Intense Humming Of Evil. Maybe this needs a new thread??

Yeah, they should just release it tomorrow anyway!

But if these latest b-sides are anything to go by, I really can't see why anyone would be looking forward to an EP of the ones that didn't make the cut. Bloody hell.
