My money is on the Olympia again.
I remember they had some of the balcony closed off at the back with black curtains, so there must have been a lot of seats empty.

The INEC in Killarney would be an excellent size venue for them, but they're another bunch who don't realise what a good venue they have and barely ever have rock gigs on there. I've only seen Morrissey there, twice.

Yeah, all bets off, The Olympia it will be. I'm getting a little fed up of that place.

They can 'shrink' the o2 alright. remove stands and curtain off a lot of the balconies. They did that for Imelda May which I'd say only had about 4,000 at it, but that was sort of a big homecoming bash. Why would the manics fork out for the venue then not use half of it? Would make more sense to do a smaller venue. Grand Canal is too posh, Ambassador, Vicar Street both too small, and everywhere else is outdoors.

I really wish my friend hadn't said 'Even if we have to go to Amsterdam to see the Manics...' now. Groar.

I think it's more to do with not being able to attract the bands there and making sure they get bands who draw big crowds rather than not realising what a good venue they have. I used to work there and saw Ian Brown play there to less than 500 people. They usually put on gigs that are guaranteed to draw - double bills of the Saw Doctors and Aslan, Christy Moore, Horslips, The Frames...I'd say most of the successful gigs they put on are with bands who play there nearly every year.

Having said that they had the Manics up on a sign outside the venue in late 2001 or early 2002 maybe as "coming soon" but that was one of those tours that got cancelled completely. I was crushed when it didn't happen as I lived in Killarney and was still working there at the time.

Think you better read this

Criminal Justice (Public Order) Act, 1994

View Full Act http://www.irishstatutebook.ie/1994/...002/print.html

5.—(1) It shall be an offence for any person in a public place to engage in queueing—

(a) between the hours of 12 o'clock midnight and 7 o'clock in the evening next following, or

(b) at any other time, after having been requested by a member of the Garda Sνochαna to desist.

(2) A person who is guilty of an offence under this section shall be liable on summary conviction to a fine not exceeding €500.

(3) In this section “queueing” means any unreasonable behaviour which, having regard to all the circumstances, is likely to cause serious offence or serious annoyance to any person who is, or might reasonably be expected to be, aware of such behaviour.

they hardly sold that place out at the peak of their fame, and now it's got twice the capacity. seriously doubt it.

The London O2 Arena also has a smaller venue as part of it that was called Indigo. It might still be but that often has smaller gigs so they could play there!
