Excellent show, Nicky was at his best, and those legs! Also really impressed James remembered all those words and all those guitar parts. This band is class - National Treasures indeed. I hope when they come back in 2 years Sean Reed and Wayne are still part of the line up. Especially Wayne, he fits in perfectly, and his Roses in the hospital vocals were spot on last night.

Empty Souls and Revol stole the show for me, as well as an excellent You Love Us, Motown Junk and the massive wave of euphoria that hit the room during ADFL.

See you all next time you beautiful people...

A big thankyou to the Manics for an amazinging gig. Had a great time in the queue, got there at 06.30! Just like old times. Great to see all and to meet, finally, lovemetodeath and her lovely friend. Sorry i didn't see you Karen and i really hope you feel better Lindz and Gina. A huge thanks to Nic for the great company and many laughs we have.

Well I think this posting off phone biz should work, so here goes... A personal view, rather than about the band- If I'm honest, think I enjoyed watching everyone else enjoying it last night more than I did myself. Maybe I was just in a funny mood or perhaps I've outgrown all this, for want of a better phrase. Maybe the earplugs I have to wear stop me getting the full force of the sound. I don't know... More questions than answers. Anyway, best songs: Empty Souls, Grace of God, Roses, plus had delightful company today with many fans for Xmas meal. Am very tired and not home yet so might change my mind on most of the above by tomorrow too.

It was only as you were being let in that I saw you whizz by. It is a shame that I couldn't say hello to you all beforehand, but the way the q was laid out, was very annoying and made it hard for me to come up to you all.

Loved hearing So Why So Sad, it also made me release how much 1985 and Christmas Ghost should have been singles. Great night. Can't wait to hear whatever they do next.

Not really. Your Love Alone needs a guest, and Nina was incredible, and Mr Rhys on Let Robeson Sing worked surprisingly well.
Having said that, the crowd reaction to the guests was fairly tame. The Manics alone held us in the palm of their hands without falter for 38 songs. There is nothing pathetic about that.

Just back from the gig and I'm still shaking typing this.

I started queuing at 5.45pm and got 3 rows from the front dead centre. I got sucked into the 'moshpit' but then got stuck behind 3 big oafish cunts who kept rubbing themselves up against their 3 ladies. Also the drunk fat cunt that wanted lifted up to crowd surf during Motorcycle you are also a cunt cos I can't remember Jimbo's solo as I was trying to make sure you didn't rub your cock on my head!!!

Highlights song wise were definitely REVOL, LSE, FDTW, YLU, Slash n Burn, and the trumpet intro to OS. I even felt myself get emotional at DFL (which is not a song I like)

The only duffers in my opinion were SWSS and possibly TLORN (and I'm a huge fan of Nixon). By the by, was TLORN play a whole key down?

Can I just say no words can describe Miss Nina Persson. The Manics have a serious serious crush on her. Poor Jimbo really wants her to work with her on the new project. She is a complete goddess.

Can I give an honourable mention to the girl at the barrier dead centre in front of Jimbo. She was wearing black gloves. I dare say she is the hottest Manics fan I've ever seen!

But seriously I cannot praise Jimbo's guitar playing enough. He obviously treated this as a physical test and had done his homework, listening to the recordings of the old tracks. His guitar work was impeccable. The trills and fills that he would never normally play were all there. Loved all the guitar changes too, especially the Gibson for YLU and the surf coloured Fender.

But Revol people! Fucking Revol! And he played it in normal tuning rather than open G. A million times harder!

Final thought: There wasn't that much mention of Richey throughout the gig - apart from a half compliment before Faster. Thoughts?

(Oh and p.p.s - I saw Nick Naysmyth in the foyer with his wife after the gig - nearly went over and strangled him for the fucking carnivalesque keyboards on Faster and YLU during the 90s!)

I guess there isn't much more they can say about Richey that they haven't said before. In terms of relating to the songs anyway.

Oh, and This Is The Day was a nice little beast wasn't it? Very surprising that.
Also, it didn't strike me at the time, but there was no acoustic interval at any point - very refreshing. Well done to them.

Things I missed out yesterday...

1. The Love of Richard Nixon is a great song on record, but was disappointing live.

2. I left that show wanting to start a band. That is what I love about really good live shows and performers. I see them and get insanely jealous, because I feel that, however hard I try, I'll never be able to write or perform as good as they do.

Firstly, how shit boring is this review? http://www.guardian.co.uk/music/2011...?newsfeed=true Dull. Cliched. Makes it sound as though she wasn't even there but read bullet-points of key songs. Doesn't do it justice at all.

Got to say, even though James looked astonishingly handsome, I'd have Nina over him any day. She's utterly beautiful. So much cooler than anyone else on the stage. Voice was grand. Whole band was ogling and James reverted to a teenage fanboy. Massive life highlight seeing her perform with them.

Revol was immense. Sean's trumpet solos (and cowbell) were awesome. There were a few moments where I winced and thought the gig was going to bomb as some parts of the first half were a bit meh, but that didn't happen thankfully.

Could have done without Nicky stripping to his boxers to change outfit.

Kasabian at the O2 on Thursday gave a better gig for atmosphere and performance, but in terms of emotion, nostalgia, and for some special reason I can't really articulate, that gig was great. Really enjoyed it. They were so nervous, bless them, but they pulled it off big-time. Sounded ace.
