I was going to blame you but I figured you have enough blame for the holocaust to worry about. I wanted to leave you in peace

you can blame lack of publicity all you like, but the manics did almost every show going! they also got a two page spread in the nme, and features in countless other magazines/ newspapers. in short, the manics had loads more publicity than beyonce and shakira. and perhaps shops wouldn't have sold out if all the crazy manics fans hadn't all bought 10 copies each.

you know, it's a strange thought, but maybe people just didn't like the song that much

Well even if people did buy 10 copies each the records were still being sold so what's your point?

Surely the point is it might not even have charted at number 2 if it wasn't for mass buying by the hardcore fans.

Maybe the Beyonce/Shakira fans bought 10 copies of that single each, I noticed in HMV they had 3 formats to plus are'nt their about 3 different variations available for download

I doubt that very much.

Why? don't they want their favourites to sell as well every group forum I post do the same when ever the release a new single. I've had emails from Mods on a Friday night asking me to buy another copy of the latest single

I'm not blaming anyone, they did a lot better than I was expecting as I said in my post.

I was just saying that not getting on radio 1 wasn't their only problem in terms of promotion, yeah they did a lot of stuff but it wasn't big ticket stuff, there were some nice curio stuff but they didn't do any prime time type shows which if you're comparing to EMG/TIMT promo they were offered them then, to a degree those shows don't exist anymore I suppose. The E4 stuff probably got to a wider audience but things like Xfm, 6music how big is their audience? They did a lot of stuff if you went out of your way to listen to it, but I dunno whether they did stuff people who weren't going out of their way would necessarily pick up on. And similarly with magazine stuff yeah they were in them but they were only on the cover of the welsh big issue, if you get on a cover people see your face and know you've got a record out even if they don't buy the magazine.

Yes but Tom was blaming the fact it didn't go to number 1 because copies sold out. They sold out because we were buying them and it still didn't make any difference.

And here I was being very impressed that they got to number 2.

It's just a fucking chart. Radio 1 don't compile it, they just broadcast it. There are so many radio stations and TV channels and the hyperglobalintermerweb that it's not Radio 1's fault it didn't get to number 1. Go and stroke a cat or something.
