Leasowes must have been ahead of its time, most people I know went to a secondary modern, a comprehensive, or a grammar school. I took my 'fifth year' exams in 1980, and the term O levels, although still in common use, was probably no longer officially the right term. I took GCEs mostly. Lower sets took CSEs. For Latin and French, everyone at my school took the 16+ exam, which was the precursor of modern GCSEs, and gave a combined award of a CSE and a GCE, so I have a Grade 1 CSE and a Grade B GCE in each subject.

Well in 1974 my school was Hill and Cakemore secondary and the other school was Halesowen Grammar school but then they scrapped the 11+ and grammar schools and knocked our school down and it was re-built as Leasowes High and the Grammar school became Earls High school. I took CSE's too. I was a bit miffed as the year before they left at 15 and they increased the school age to 16

Plus, if a few people got a bit rowdy he could turn into Holy Bible era James and make them shit themselves and fuck off.
Hahahah I just choked on a crisp reading this.
