That sounds about right to me, why would they release everything at once when they can do it in two goes and charge their fans a stupid amount of money twice for it?

James owes you a lapdance for the amount of money you spend on him.

Yes, he does really. Or a least a conversation!

Pointless trivia time! I once actually made up a tracklist of what a boxset like this could contain if we indeed had every single b-side released in every format, and the largest number of tracks on a single disc would be 15! Which would be The Everlasting, much thanks to its several remixes and loads of live tracks on various random issues of the single. I think the average number of songs per disc would be around 6-7; the earlier singles have relatively few b-sides (2-3) while from EMG onwards you start to get 3+ format singles regularly (making things up to around 7-9).

Yes, I am a nerd and sometimes a very bored nerd with time to spend on imaginary tracklists.

I wish I was still in "completist manics" mode, but I haven't felt like that for ages .

I've still preordered the CD obviously!

Yeah I haven't felt like that in about two years, I miss being an obsessive fan sometimes.
I haven't even ordered the CD

They'll always be my favourite band, but I think my days of buying every
vinyl/CD are gone...

Although, a music shop near me was closing down and they had the 2002 FD greatest hits tour programme in the window for £2 . (I was at the Glasgow SECC gig, but didn't buy a programme). Seeing random manics things when I'm on my travels makes me happy

you don't need all the pointless remixes and live versions. They should just have the non album songs on them. If most of those are missing then that's a huge shame.

I'm guessing the club of Manics completists is very exclusive now they've started releasing books for £300.

And if you can't collect everything, why collect anything?

maybe they're planning another b-side compilation? Who knows..seems utterly bonkers to miss off some of the later b-sides. Welcome to the deadzone isn't included and that's one of the best songs from the SATT era. WHO is making these decisions?

I don't think I've ever been as annoyed at the Manics as when they released TLORN as a single instead of 1985. I know it's not their fault, but still!!

Seeing that tracklist has totally pissed me off I mean the fucking drowners is on there but welcome to the deadzone + other much better songs aren't. Their version of wrote for luck is crap aswell. Both already on lipstick traces. Lets all buy it again shall we? AAAAAARGGGGGGGH !

edit: the drowners isnt on lipstick traces is it? MEH i'm still pissed off

The mistake was to only include 1 b-side on certain CD1s in the first place. Looking at the Empty Souls disc, All Alone Here is a song nobody would need to moan about being left off. It's the worst (apart from Failure Bound) from that set and is where the rot started. There are two songs on this Empty Souls CD with two unique verses between them. Lazy sods.

Of course they should have gone for the three or four track CD2s where necessary but they haven't and I personally don't care. And less really is more when it comes to the remixes and live tracks. Can anyone remember that live version of La Tristesse Durera that popped up during the Lifeblood era? I wish I could forget it, it's bloody horrendous.
