Nicky will be on lead vocals for the whole next album...

See, that was my solution! Oh god, 70 songs of Nicky vocals XD Either that, or James will be like "NO NO FORGET IT! I'LL SING AGAIN!"

Does it make anyone else cringe? I kinda wish he'd stop talking as if he is an expert on stuff. I also take issue with the fact they were poltitical commentators, they very rarely made decent political statements about contemporary issues, rather they use abstract political lyrics to talk about political ideas in an obtuse way sometimes...it doesn't make him a historian. When he talks about other bands like the smiths and the sex pistols, that was decades ago now. They haven't been a band you wanted to dress and live like since the early 90s....

This is a bit scary. On the other hand, it could leave space in the music for more Sean trumpet solos.

What did he say about a singer?

He said he wants John Lydon and Morrissey to be the new singers. I presume he'd also expect them to sing his inferior lyrics. What a nut.

Yeah, although in fairness I think it's more a case of JDB wanting to find someone else to sing Nicky's lyrics. It's understandable, really.

I'd just like to reiterate that I think doing a "project", and project is the word, with a singer (which is almost guaranteed to be Nina if it is just one), or with a range of singers, is a great idea. At this stage of their careers, with families and such, the songwriting and recording part of it must be 100 times easier to fit into their real lives than having to do extensive touring and promo of an album - especially when they hate the album as soon as they release it and only play 3 songs off it.

Seems kinda pointless. They might as well just quit and write music and lyrics for another band. James voice is one of their trademarks.

Agreed, infact id go as far to say its one of the bands strongest assets. An album of duets could work but James not singing completely would be an unmitigated disaster. It'd be like some wanky tribute band like Queen have become with Paul Rodgers

Maybe after a few years he'll no longer be sick of hearing the sound of his own voice (as he put it) and forget this other singer nonsense. James Dean Bradfield is the only singer for the Manics.
Also, if Morrissey did feature on a Manics album, I don't think I could forgive them for it. For all of The Smiths' merits, he is a prize cock. Nah, Lifeblood was actually good. |

Many of you clamour for them to do something different but then they mention an idea that would materially change how they sound and you all freak out. Make your minds up!
I love JDB's voice as much as the next fan, but I don't see the problem with getting some different vocalists, in theory at least (it depends who they get). I can't imagine James would to the extreme of stopping singing altogether, or not for very long at least.

Getting in a single female backing singer/co-vocalist would be my preference, though. It's been a success on every track they've tried it with so far. |

I reckon there'll still be ambitious rock and roll bands. They mention bands not being social commentators or kicking against something, but given the right scenario and people, that could still happen.
