At the start of the show...

And now Ladies & Gentlemen we have a real treat okay,
in the blue room tonight we have a band who have sold over 10 million albums worldwide
they have never been on American television before and they have chosen this show here tonight
to make there first ever performance on American television, it's the incredible Manic Street Preachers!

Cuts to James & Sean in dressing room
(James waves & says Hi), Nicky then appears grinning and spraying his hair!
James C laughs at Nicky's jacket stating how understated he always is.

A few jokes follow regarding Nicky's jacket.

It's a brilliant performance - sounded like the crowd liked it!
They were reacting to the jumps!

Honestly I thought they would play 'Faster' given that they're in the US to promote THB box set but I suppose as long as ADFL is available on Itunes then it still might be good for a sales bump.

They were on canadian tv at some point in 1992. I have a video of Rich and Nick playing miniature golf or something....

They ended up using some of that in No Manifesto, pretty humorous footage.

That's not American TV, it's Canadian TV. It was a program called The New Music and they were taken by the interviewer to an indoor golfing joint similar to Put-Put. They also didn't perform.

Great performance by the band. They clearly enjoyed themselves as evidenc d by James looking all snazzy.

Too bad the tour didn't work out for them so they'd be in NYC for Saturday Night Live.

Why are they playing ADFL? They should have done Faster or something off Futurology.

Couldn't see them snagging a SNL appearance (even though it would fucking rule) but I honestly thought they would play Fallon when they were in NYC...or at least fucking Seth Meyers haha

Yes, this confuses me a bit as well. Maybe it was requested by the show's producers, or James Corden? Otherwise it's a bit of a strange decision, given that they are there to promote THB. Unless this is subtly leading over to the whole 20th anniversary of EMG with full album gigs malarky of course. (#MuseumAct4Real)

See, I actually thought ADFL was a great idea specifically because of the possibility of some iTunes sales, like Hunter mentioned earlier. That song is way more accessible than anything on THB, so it might pave the way for a few new fans who start by downloading the song they heard on TV and decide to throw in a few others while they're shopping.
