I own everything they have done which is available - 80s demos to Postcards and all albums singles and bootlegs in between. This is the first time I've thought meh! About a song and liked it less the more I heard it.

The manics are a band who have either drastically or subtlety reinvented themselves at every turn. Yet this is a stagnant turd of epically boring proportions. Autumn song may be 'manics by numbers' but still contains energy and melody. This is sings of praise-esq lift music radio 2 Mumford and sons boring.

Are you serious?!? Its the most common chord progression of them all played through an over-distorted triple humbucker Les Paul - a perfect symbol for an over-produced shiny superficial Dave Eringa project.

Rewind the Film is not perfect but it is a 6 minutes of soulful reflection to compared to INW's 4 mins of pub rock piss.

That's assuming it's deliberate. It could just be Nicky's writing, but I like this song, so I'm giving it the benefit of the doubt.

Agree with you on the lyric, i think it's obvious that this is a deliberate device and not sloppiness! If there's anything about this song I don't have issues with it's the lyrics. They are well-written and introspect and up there with the best.
Mind, it does sound as if James sings "celebrate the bottom"!

It looks very much like a plain jane promo copy, the more of that font's on the front the less good it looks imho.
