@robinturner: @NiallMDoherty repeat listens really pay off... fave track changes all the time, currently Running Out of Fantasy
@NiallMDoherty: @robinturner I bet. Felt like it put me in a trance state on the bus this morning. Especially love Tokyo Skyline and Sullen Welsh Heart. @robinturner: @NiallMDoherty it really suits the weather - the perpetual autumnal band's first summer record

Yeah just read that, cheers. Hope it's good then. I'm just a bit suspicious of Q journalists.

One week on, still cannot relate to this. Can't find any intimacy in it, can't appreciate it as a Manics song, as much as I try the guest vocalist thing ruins it for me - despite the fact that I love Richard Hawley and appreciate that his vocals are great.
Musically fantastic, but for me mistaking this for a genuine self-written song as opposed to a variation built around someone else's music has diminished it massively for me. To be clear: not the fact that it is a variation, that is a legit artistic expression! Just namedropping Axelrod in general without making it clear that this is 50% his grates on me. I would have been able to appreciate it differently had I known about the songwriting process. There's just not much that is actually Manics about it for me. I know others don't have this problem and I hope they and everyone else will love the new album. I am not looking forward to any of the new albums right now, it seems that "Manics & Friends" is not an approach that works in the context of the album's supposed "intimacy" for me. Nebraska? More like Tom Jones Reloaded. (Am I allowed to express this here?)

i like the track in terms of the arrangements, atmosphere blahblahblahblahblah bit bummed that's another "everything's so shit, remember how good things used to be when richey was knocking about?" which is 3/4 of their discography

There are no more credited guests on this album than the last are there?
PFAYM: John Cale (Auto-Intoxication), Duff McKagan (A Billion Balconies Facing the Sun), and Ian McCulloch (Some kind of nothingness). RTF: Richard Hawley (Rewind the film), Lucy Rose (This Sullen Welsh Heart), and Cate Le Bon (4 Lonely Roads). |

Kevin Rowland from Dexy's mentioned as a guest in one of the Aussie interviews (the one where the writer keeps mentioning Kevin Parker).
