They should, so at least the newbies will be able to see that they rocked for a little while inbetween two daytime radio albums.

I'm actually picturing Nicky as the girl on the cover and it's hysterical.

Bit of a silly edit really, kills the whole point of the line.

Indeed, and in substituting one for another suggests that flowers and Twin Towers collapse in the same way with the same meaning...

On the other hand, the manics could just try to copy the original in every way and leave us all once again wondering wtf they are thinking.
It's one of the two most famous The The songs, but I wouldn't say it's a favourite of mine. There is another, more stripped down version but you'd all hate that as well as it's driven more by a harmonica. I'd rather have had one of their more political tracks, but I'm sure they'll do a decent version. I doubt we'll get 'belting out the vocals' - I suspect they'll leave it with a wistful quality. I wonder what Matt Johnson will think and if he'll comment on The The's twitter feed.

Oh, and I hated the cover picture on first viewing. When I looked again a few minutes later I found that, once I'd gotten over the initial surprise, I actually rather like it. Totally unfashionable, working class, forever being relegated to the past but never quite giving up...sounds familiar.

Well, it's..............different. I honestly didn't know what to expect. Either something with the band on it, or something really artsy and out there heh.

My first reaction was "This looks like a lost shot from the SATT album art." I'm sure Nicky has an explanation. Speaking of, did we ever get an explanation for the SATT cover? I seem to remember Nicky saying something about how it was supposed to represent him and Richey.

It looks like something I might've done when I was in Year 9 and messing around on Paint. 'Look, I've got some culturally relevant things in!'

Sorry, been away a few days. Just catching up.

1.I loved The The when I was a kid, so I'm all up for the cover. I agree that it's not worth wasting a good original song that will be viewed as commercial filler on the compilation. Save it for the next album and knock us dead with it!

2.What can I say - I liked the SATT cover. It was kinda rough and playful, like the album. So, I quite like this cover too. It's got a sort of commercial look to it, with an old mine in the background. Bit, like the band. I think. Etc.. Blah blah blah!

Oh, and somebody mentioned a The The twitter feed. has anybody got a link to it as I can't find it.
I used to be 'friends' with The The on Facebook, but he seems to have either deleted his account or...deleted me :0

Here's why it makes sense that 1) the bonus track is a cover version and 2) the album cover is very SATT-era

Manics UK Chart positions:
