Given the fact that the Manics bothered to use a quote from Aneurin Bevan for an album title and there was a large portion of the opening ceremony celebrating the NHS, I'm surprised you or Nicky can't understand how some of it might actually fit in with the band's ideals.

That was a part of the show but I think he's really referring to the whole circus of it as a whole to be honest. If you enjoyed it that's fine, it's just not my thing really!

Gutless you did not watch the opening ceremony so you can't really comment - the same can be said about Nicky

Here's me attempting to stick up for your beloved beanpole as well! It's probably the whimsicalness of it all that Nicky is moaning about but that's what these sorts of things are usually about. It's to entertain the crowd, get the unity/togetherness message across and to encourage the youngsters to get involved in sport which is of course a very good thing! I just have never sat through an entire Olympic opening ceremony. Sydney was probably the one I watched most of I think.

Gutless I know it's just Nicky being Nicky but having you as his spokesperson, the Jamsey girl who did not watch the ceremony made me chuckle to myself Hope I have not blown your cover!

Love your positive points regarding the opening ceremony
