Ok, here we go. Enough is enough.
If you love something that much then you put the effort in.
If you want to be at the front then you get there early, put yourself through the discomfort and enjoy the benefits.
If you don't like it then go and do something else.
You're talking to real fans. Real fans do whatever is necessary.
Get used to it...

You're lucky. I almost had 2 fights this tour. 1. my hubby got accused of groping a woman, I think she was trying to get my barrier spot.
2. Mad bloke licked my friend then threatened to kill her.

If you're not bothered about being in front of Nicky then the rest of the barrier is usually pretty easy to get to, even if you haven't queued overnight or whatever.

True. I usually turn up about 6pm if it's 7pm doors and have no problems getting to the barrier left of James.

Personally I don't see the obsession with being on the barrier. A few years ago I used to queue and based on the times I've been on the barrier it's generally meant getting crushed and not being able to move at all throughout the gig. I prefer to be a couple of rows back slightly to one side or the other, just on the edge of the pit so I have the choice of joining in if I want but can comfortably stop bouncing about when I get out of breath. I usually get a pretty good view from there (although I understand shorter people do need to be closer) and the atmosphere is usually pretty good. At Wolves I turned up about 5 mins before the support band and had a great spot without being rude or pushing past people.

So anyway, let the people who queue have the barrier. If you want it bad enough you should be willing to put in the effort.

I agreed up until this bit. You can be a real fan and not queue X amount of hours to be at the front of a gig. It depends what's the most important part of the experience for people: some like to be right at the front, others prefer to stand back a bit. The ones at the front aren't any more 'real' a fan than the ones a few rows back.

That's a common technique used by utter tossers. One guy tried to push in front of me and a group of friends, when we wouldn't move he pissed on one of us, then stood behind me and started to try to set fire to my hair. When my husband got him in an armlock, his girlfriend started to scream the place down and say that my husband had assaulted her. Security dragged him over the barrier, and I followed in a state of high indignation, explained things to the security guy in charge (who was brilliant) and security then waded in and dragged the boyfriend out and ejected him from the venue. We still lost our places though, and in the ruckus the tramp girlfriend got to the barrier. It ruined our night, but taught me something, in that I was on the other side of the barrier, inches from Nicky, and I still stormed past him to 'rescue' my husband. I guess I know where my priorities really lie

Other people have got a chance. They can get there earlier. I get one day a year off in term time. I used that day to travel 3 hours to get to Wolves mid-afternoon so I could get to the barrier. I could have saved my day off, and got there at 7pm. Oi, girls, budge over, give us a chance. Why should they?
You really donīt seem to get it. Itīs just not possible for everyone to be there really early. You travelled for 3 hours to see the band, what an achievement, I salute you.

Relic, that is utterly shocking. What the fuck is wrong with some people? I cannot believe that people behave like that.

You should have jumped up and kissed Nicky though!

And I also agree with that. I'm not saying that those not on the barrier aren't "real fans"! Far from it. Anyone who goes to enjoy the music, experience, and presence of this marvellous band deserve respect. Let's show it to all who do.

No, you really don't seem to get it.

What you said was that you understood that guy's point (the guy who spent the first half of the set physically and verbally assaulting the girls in front of him) because the same people are on the barrier every night (who had queued since the morning). Sometimes even we can't be there early, but when we can't be we don't go psycho on the people who did. The majority of the time however we can, and we shouldn't expect to be hurt for it.

Do you understand yet?

Me? Jump? Not even for Nicky, bless him. I still have nerve damage from being hauled over the barrier, it put my shoulder out and I lost feeling in my fingers for several days, I still have a permanent tingle from it. I hope that couple get everything that they deserve.

My friend's bus was stuck in traffic but she arrived in time and we found a spot in front of Nicky near the front, not at the barrier but with good view.
And it was a great gig as well.
I saw your Wolves-photos, they're great!
