That's not fair. It's hardly a gambling habit if you take a punt at major events. Everything is harmful if you overdo it.

That doesn't make any sense whatsoever. Gambling and views on royalty/Olympics are two completely different things.

Er, no. He gambled on fruit machines in his uni days and James had to bail him out. That is well documented!

It's grossly irresponsible given he's admitted a habit in his youth. If he's gambling, he should keep it to himself rather than advertising it on his band's public Twitter account.

If you say so boss. Promoting gambling is obnoxious and highly irresponsible, but so long as he doesn't play in front of the Queen, that's alright though.

Since when did the Manics turning down the closing ceremonies become a flip of the bird to the Royal family? I thought it was about the extreme commercialization of the Olympics? Or maybe it's about none of the above given that no one in the band has commented on why they allegedly turned it down. One cryptic remark means nothing.

Maybe they didn't want to disappoint their South Korean fans?

I always assumed that was an exaggeration to be honest. Irresponsible youth. I very much doubt if he genuinely has a problem he'd be mouthing off about it.

Gambling isn't automatically evil Shannon. Lots of people do it without it being a problem. By your logic he shouldn't mention going out for a pint incase it leads someone down the road to Alcoholism

People will have a 'flutter' as we say over here. Doesn't mean they are gambling addicts. Don't go squandering all your cash though Wire!

yea maybe there's a culture difference here. I'm just talking about putting a bet on major sporting events ..world cup / grand national etc not sitting in casinos. I spend £6 on the national lottery every week so I gamble too

Gambling isn't some sort of 'dirty little secret'. It's a perfectly legal form of entertainment. He's just having a bit of fun for the Olympics, and he's probably not even gambling at all.

He shouldn't have to restrain from enjoying himself just because a few have decided that gambling is immoral.
