Yeah I don't mind PFAYM (The song) lyrically, but the recording is just too drenched in strings and an obvious abnd calculated attempt at a "hit" single... An acoustic version would suit me just fine.

I hate the way James sing "posted again" on the song. It's incredibly annoying. "posteed agen"

Actually, I do HATE none of their songs. I don't like Let Robeson sing that much, as I had some kind of personal downtime (having to do with September 11 and having a disturbed boyfriend at that time and having looked forward to the Manics' European Tour that got cancelled because 'they would rather use the time to work on their Greatest Hits album') when it was released, and I really needed another Manics fix, but watching that video with those ballet dancing children I was like "WTF???"... It put me off the Manics for 12 years...
Robeson is one of the few Manics tracks I just can't listen to; it's one step too far into the direction of kitsch. I do appreciate the intention/the topic of the song, but the lyrics are a bit too in-your-face for my taste. They make me cringe.

Agreed. But then again, it was "one last attempt at mass communication." ;-)

For me, PFAYM (the song) is one of the few post-TIMT-tracks that actually really gets to me. I like most newer songs ("new" meaning everything after KYE, haha!), but I love few them. It is sort of bombastic or pompous, of course, but to me that's a general Manics "problem" after THB. The "bombast" works fine when the songs are catchy and the lyrics interesting, but if those two things are missing, it just tends to get a bit too much for me. PFAYM (the song) used to be just a "nice little ditty" for me, but when the gig in Berlin in May "rekindled" my love for the Manics and I started listening to the last couple of albums properly, this one just stood out to me because it relates so well to where I'm standing at this moment of my life. I feel like I'd been in something like a deep sleep the last couple of years, and the Manics gig reawakened my "fighting spirit" and made me remember the goals and ambitions I had ten years ago and which I'd lost sight of. So the "This world will not impose its will"-bit has become a bit of a personal credo or mantra lately, and the "I don't believe the absolutes anymore" kind of hits the nail on the head for me. It's what I've been feeling increasingly the last couple of years, only I couldn't put that feeling into words.

Anyway, sorry for rambling and going a bit OT.

So here's my plus for PFAYM. And I feel bad for giving the minus to Ocean Spray because of the song's topic, but I just have to. ;-)

I dislike the album (well... I don't dislike it as such, but I think it's their least best by a considerable margin). I really love the song though. "This world will not impose its will, I will not give up and I will not give in" hits me in much the same way it does you. I've been wanting to start trying to save it for a while, so yeah, I'll start chipping away at it now. Should only take about two months
