Not sure how a pre-sale would've helped much. I've tried getting tickets for more popular bands and failed on both days. The venues are just too small and they don't want to play arenas

Yeah, though i think Nicky is still stuck in the 90s where that meant something.

The touts will surely all be signed up to the newsletters of every band going though, so they'd get the same presale links that we do. And again, one of the biggest problems is that some promoters (notably Ticketmaster) put aside a significant portion of their tickets specifically for selling on to touts, and no amount of presales are going to change that.

Also anyone that has been to at least 28 gigs in the last 7 years gets automatic entry. They still have to pay though. That's all fair right? I've said they have to pay.

Only one problem: the only people who could actually prove they got tickets to 28 gigs in the last seven years are the scalpers . . .

Agreed

I tried several times to book through Shitketmaster and a search for Manic Street Preachers just ended in nothing but an endless search.

Yeah, the AutoTout allocation is the bit that particular sticks. As I recall, getmein is actually owned by Ticketmaster and they get their allocation via the back door.

Exactly, this places genunine buyers at a disadvantage right from the start. It's really disgusting and the fact that they are so blatant about it really makes me angry!

There have to be ways for ticket agents to minimise touting, if they wanted to. I suspect touting makes life nice and easy for them, their shows sell out fast.

Most ticket websites restrict the number of tickets you can buy, so why not restrict the number of tickets bought for an event per credit/debit card and only send tickets to the registered address on the card.
Quite a few websites will only send to the address on the card so it's not new or difficult to implement.
The could consider registering tickets to individual people (or one person per group) and requesting ID on entry.

They could then handle the transferal of tickets themselves and charge a small transaction fee for doing so which they could use to pay for the additional hassle.

They could perhaps use the ticket machines you see at train stations and cinemas, whereby you purchase tickets online, present your card and they tickets get printed for you. I suppose touts could use the prepaid cards though and get round the system that way.

I'm sure there is a much better solution but I've not given it much thought. It's obvious though that ticket agents have no interest in tackling the touting problem because it benefits them. It really ruins everything for people though.

I would say we should all boycott Ticketmaster, but it wouldn't make any difference! Someone would still buy the tickets and we'd be the ones missing out

As far as I understand it, this system is actually in place at Liverpool FC, hence why my mum buys tickets even for games she can't attend (and then sells them on at face value (or less if it's against Villa)) so she can build up points for any potential big games come the end of the season.

Of course if this logic applied to support acts too, I would have priority booking for every Pins gig ever despite never actually seeing them as a headliner, ever.
