Country Feedback is nothing like that! Although Mark Lanegan and Soulsavers stole the song for 'Revival' a few years back now, exactly the same:

Can anyone suggest a REM song better than A Design for Life on a Manic's forum?

Hmm, I'd say Everybody hurts is the closest they've come to a defining rousing towering anthem.
Theres plenty of R.E.M songs I like more tho. |

Quote:
Along a similar melodic vibe are : Country Feedback, Leave, Strange Currencies, Daysleeper. REM have loads of songs of different varieties and styles. New Test Leper and Final Straw are worth a listen but they don't write songs in the same vein the Manics do ie. idea and lyric-based. Stipe puts effort into his words but some of them are a bit of a joke. I assume by "song" you're looking for music+words to equal or better Design? |

Is 'Losing My Religion' better than 'A Design for Life'?
It could be argued, but maybe not in the present locale.

Do hardcore REM fans like Losing my Religion? I'd imagine they'd hate it as it's songs like that that drew in the awful middle-of the -road middle-aged couple crowd.

I'd still say REM fans like Losing My Religion. Besides, it's always AFTP that people are raving about and what gave them huge mainstream success.
Based on the above arguments that Everybody Hurts may be better than A Design For Life, I'm going to try and continue this thread... Everybody Hurts vs Found That Soul |

Nobody Loved You vs. All the Way to Reno.
(This is a bit silly and one-sided. Why doesn't someone go post a similar thread on an REM board. I doubt there's many REM fans aware of the Manics.) |
