To be fair to him (there is a first time for everything) James also said he hates seeing a band live that doesn't play an almost entirely hits set so it's not a case of one band member being to blame.

Plus I guess a lot of songs one or the other would like to play would be vetoed by one of the members who may think it's crap to play/just a crap song.

People will never be 100% happy. The hardcore moan about not hearing the rarities. The casuals would moan about not hearing the hits. Just a vicious circle. I don't go to enough gigs to get bored of the setlist!

I would think that's a large part of the problem. the amount of slagging all the past albums get, they probably don't all agree on much. Which is probably what we're left with.

an entire set of spice girls covers?
Edit: actually, thinking about it, that would still make me happy. Happier than a greatest hits set. I'll start a new campaign.

The amount of time I've heard so called "casuals" complain when they've seen them twice for playing a nearly exactly the same set I'd not even say it's a hardcore fan moutain out of molehill situation. It's a problem that anyone who appreciates live bands seem to have.

This is true. It's not just the people who see them multiple times. I've heard people who go to one gig a tour getting just a bored by the lack of change.

I kinda agree with Midlands Junk. I wasn't remotely convinced by this tour. The atmospheres were largely underwhelming, with the exceptions of Manchester and Leicester.

They could dedicate Goodbye to Richey!

It's not a case of "hardcore fans wanting rarities", because the songs most people wish they'd play aren't rare they have far more popular songs that aren't on the set.
As for casual fans wanting the hits, I can't imagine there are too many truly casual fans who know much about LBN, or Tristesse, or Roses- those people are fans and are therefore actually likely to own the albums and know the songs people would like to hear.

I think it's fairly normal for a band with a few albums behind them to only play about 3-4 songs from their latest even if the tour is "named" for the current album title.

Perhaps there is an argument to be made about their inability to change the set list up from show to show, but I don't think only playing a few tunes from their current album is a legitimate grip considering most bands with a similar pedigree do exactly the something.

Well unless we're all gonna sit them down in a room and vent there's not a great deal of point moaning about it to be honest. It's their way, apparently!
