Just curious - how do you know that? Is this something that was said in interview at some point, or is it a guesstimate based on CD sales/tour grosses?

Magazine articles. The point about Richey's account having something over a squllion mid in ti came from, possibly, Q or Guitarist Magazine. Possibly a Q 1998 interview. Their source, I don't know. Possibly band, direct press release, possibly they did the journalistic thing and asked, I don't know which.
