I remember there used to be quite a few different vids of Autumnsong on Youtube with 100k+ views, probably totalling more views than any other Manics song, so some people must have liked it. I didn't begrudge the band going for Radio 2-friendly songs with singles like Autumnsong and YLAINE, until they came out with another whole album's worth with PFAYM.

It would be nice to think that one day they'll have the guts to release another single without strings after eight years and counting.
Not that they need guts for it. Strings for the sake of strings is not the recipe for success they're so convinced by. |

But aye, I don't get it really. Nowt particularly outstanding about the song, but there's no way it's worth the hate it gets on here.

The B-side to the Underdogs 7" single was infinitely superior to the A-side.

i'm listening to last week's official UK top 40, mostly to see if there's anything of consequence but partially in some pathetic attempt to connect to a modern world i've not paid much attention to.
of the 40 tracks, about 38 are just plain fucking awful, featuring either a kid with a computer, one of them voice distorter things that Cher used somewhere (Believe, wasn't it?) or some sort of whining that i think the "artist" thinks is a ballad. Autumnsong is much better than anything on this chart, but that doesn't automatically make it a good Manics song.

Just bought one of those "soundbars" that sit along the bottom of the telly, and got my stereo wired into it as well...So to get into the spirit of the thread have put "Autumnsong" on,and am now watching "Diversity" poncing around as robots on Britain's got talent with it playing as the soundtrack... and it's actually better than EITHER version of the video for AS...
Susan Boyle on next,so might give it a miss... |

Gave it a go just for the lolz. Didn't really work. I actually quite enjoyed listening to it though. It's a good track if you ignore the shit lyrics.

"So wear your hair in bunches & your jacket loose" If that line had been sung by Nicky the song would have been a classic. In fact most Manics tracks would be classics is only Nicky sang one line in the song. It worked with Your Love Alone Is Not Enough. I think Nicky should write a lyric about Woolworths Pick N Mix. It's got nostalgia and a sense of yearning for the past. Morrisons have tried to rip it off, but it just isn't Woolies. Actually I think Send Away The Tigers is a low point lyrically for Nicky. Most of it makes no sense, like he just jumbled up a load of random words and put them in a song. I think he got most of them from crosswords and word searches.
