They played ADFL because it is, along with Tolerate, their most known song in the States (probably Canada too).
Why does it matter what they played anyway? They're all pushing 50 and at this stage, I don't think they're looking to "break America". They had fun and that's great! ![]() |

Yeah! Hummingbird speaks the truth! Ha!
Mainstream audiences are more likely to check out material based on ADFL than they are Archive of Pain. LOL! Know what I mean? |

Tolerate was probably too long...
The average person watches the show. The song is catchy and hummable. Some folks would think this is cool new music and beats the crap that resides on the mainstream charts. |

Aw I loved it, felt quite nervous for them before they came on but thought they did well and got a good response from the crowd. I don't see the issue with playing ADFL either; they were never going to play anything off THB and ADFL is a perfect introductory song for anyone looking to get into the band (it was an acoustic peformance by James of ADFL on Born Sloppy during the promo for FD in 2002 that helped get me properly into them after all). Remember this was more for people not familiar with their back catalogue than it was for existing fans.

The episode of The Late Late Show with James Corden when the Manics performed is being repeated tonight.

I got an e-mail from a friend in the US who was surprised to see "that band you love" on the television. He really enjoyed it, too, so hey, here's hoping they pick up a few more fans from this. As a music listener, there are few things more rewarding than discovering a band that already has a huge back catalogue.
